Eric:

I registered online back in March but Brookwood does NOT appear on your team list. I presume you'll add us in when Chad gets our registration fee check (I mailed that just today.)

I am glad y'all are back in Chicago again.

I really hope that if the field exceeds last year's that it won't cause us to play fewer rounds...

Eric, will there be a cap on entries this year? Just wondering.

128 teams, as far as I know.

E.O. Smith High School from Connecticut represents the 100th team at this year's HSNCT and the 30th state to be represented.

Just a reminder: I have seen several teams on this board who have indicated that they are coming to HSNCT who have not yet registered. There are only *8* spots left in the field and I would suggest to all teams who are definitely planning on coming that you register as soon as possible.

With 128 teams, does that mean there will only be 8 prelim rounds, or 10 still?

Will anyone be mapping the locations of the participating schools?

yeah, I don't see myself doing that again.

So anybody looking to do it can feel free I guess. It'll be fun, I promise.

edit: with google maps being around these days it'll be really easy, actually

Feel free to join and add a few of the schools as a "Place." Use local.google.com to find out zip codes. I've done TJ and all the Alabama schools so far.

Leave it to a Brookwoodite to list his (I'm assuming) school as a "Guy," and not a "Place."

Dude, Brookwoodite is not the preferred nomenclature, please, Brookwoodian.

If anybody wants to add the Illinois schools, the ZIPs are Stevenson (60069), Loyola (60091), and New Trier (60093). All three are North of Chicago.

I did all the schools (except the two foreign ones, didn't work for some rease) up through Iowa.

Just entered Pensacola, Shanghai American (luckily it didn't unzoom next time and mess up the view), and all the Texas schools. Good to see Cave Spring is going. Too bad more Illinois schools haven't signed up.

NAQT says...
The 128-team field for the 2006 High School National Championship is now full and registration is closed. NAQT will continue to accept new registrations on a waitlist basis only.

It is BROOKWOODIE that is the proper term for those of us serving that sentence!

Go and study your European History. Didn't you think Disraeli was DeGaulle's rabbai??

We won our state tournament last weekend and I was too slow in registering after waiting for a go-ahead from my school administration. So now my team is # 130 in a 128 field. What are our chances of actually getting to go and compete? I actually reserved hotel rooms but now I'm in a quandary about airline tickets-- and I actually am getting offers of financial support to help the kids go. I'm afraid if I wait too long ticket prices will double, but of course if I buy tickets and no spots open up I won't be able to get a refund. Anybody else out there ever dealt with this situation?

My suggestion would be to cut your losses on NAQT and go to PACE. You'll still get to go to a National Championship Tournament on good pyramidal questions, and they are actually needing more teams.

That's my Plan B. My kids were ecited about Chicago, though. I may try for both and cross my fingers.

If you do come to PACE, let me know as soon as possible. I have to lock down the number of housing and game rooms we're using really soon.

If you can afford to travel to both, consider being a standby team at NAQT. If a spot opens, you're in, and if it doesn't, the team scores/times/etc., and in return, you guys get the questions from the tournament plus NAQT "gift certificates," if you want to call it that. I was looking into it for a while, until we went 2-4 at NAQT state.

Why is there a huge circle centered in WV with no schools going?

Or Alaska?

Of course, if you could afford to travel to both, let me know so I can put you in our field.

I found this http://www.naqt.com/hsnct/2006/2006-hs- ... html#japan
very interesting. Since I cannot read Japanese, I was unable to read the Japanese website.(http://www.ntv.co.jp/quiz/index.html) Can anybody who can give us a synopsis?

That's very interesting. That seems like a great prize for the national championship team. I think this will add a lot of draw to the NAQT HSNCT for teams hoping to win a trip to Japan; although, part of the reason a lot of teams play Chip is because they know they won't win NAQT HSNCT anyway  .
My parents happen to be going to Tokyo today, I'll have them try to get a recording of this show on "NTV" which I could put online... not that I'd understand any of it.

Being Japanese, I'm really excited about this.
Not that I think we have any real chance . . .

The website doesn't mention the international teams at all.
I guess they're, as the naqt page said, still on planning stage on many things.

It seems that the most obvious question is: "In what language will this competition take place?" I doubt even last year's TJ team was fluent in Japanese....

Posted: Fri May 26, 2006 10:07 pm
by dschafer
Well, it seems Esperanto is the obvious neutral choice.

EDIT: And last year's TJ team was definitely not fluent in Japanese, though Dan Wright could probably do an amusing imitation.

Three members of my team will be in Chicago on Thursday night. We may be willing to scrimmage an interested party. If anyone is interested, please email me.

No team went undefeated during prelims. Ranked 1st after prelims is Grosse Point of...somwhere? (9-1). Pregame favorites RM, State College, and Gov in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, all 8-2, and TJ A number 9 at 7-3. 48 of 128 teams went 6-4 or better to make the double-elimination playoffs. I didn't have time after Jeopardy callbacks to check the rankings much. Hopefully someone else can fill in some more...with any luck there will be something up on the website this evening.

My team went a disappointing 4-6... missing our #2 guy apparently hurt more than expected...

Still had a great time in Chicago, and got to meet many of the people I've only talked to over the internet, so I still had a great time.

Good luck to all those competing in the playoffs tomorrow, my money is still on RM.

New Trier was the only Illinois team to survive, winning its last three after starting 3-4. Loyola and Stevenson both went 5-5.

Anyone know the final results yet?

I talked to Neel; these results are completely from my memory of a three minute conversation, and thus are both selective and possibly inaccurate.

RM won, with State College, Gov A and DCC all in the top 4. TJ A got 7th. Grosse Point (the 1-seed going in to the playoffs) went 1-2 in the playoffs.
