I think that now that you have brought this up, you are obligated to post the specifics, because leaving it vague casts suspicion on every tournament you've been to this year, which is unfair to all tournaments besides the one you actually have in mind.

Two GA teams met in the JV championship at Chattahoochee and GA team, finished 1-2-3-4 in the JV division as a matter of fact.

Georgia State Tournament is this Friday and Saturday. Myfavorites:

5A--Chattahoochee

4A---Heritage

3A---Davidson Fine Arts

2A---Bleckley County

1A---Baconton Charter

I am most sure about Heritage in 4A and least sure in 3A.

Anyone have any thoughts about State?

Wow--nice to see Davidson Fine Arts getting back on the map. They were pretty good (especially in Science Bowl) back in my high school days.

I have a decent idea as to who is in 5A and 4A--who else is in 3A, 2A, and A? I'd think Greater Atlanta Christian, Paideia, and Blessed Trinity would all be in one of those classifications, and while I don't know as much about the Southeast this year, I'd think they'd all be contenders.

Packets 1-9 have at least 8 questions worded almost verbatim in the Chatahoochee tournament.

CATT Questions

Post by Rountree »

I would ask that you please refer to my post in the thread regarding the situation with the questions at the CHS CATT on 2/24. It is in the Tournament Announcement forum.

Our tournament's questions were outsourced to current college students; our team did NOT write any of the questions for the tournament other than the worksheets, which are not the issue. We were not given ample time to check on the source of all the questions, nor did we have reason to suspect that they were plagiarized. We feel at this time a deeper investigation is needed before releasing any names of those involved.

We apologize for any frustration this may have caused. Obviously, this was beyond our immediate control and not at all what we wanted our tournament to be remembered for.

I was the writer/editor of the plagarised questions, and given the situation, I am giving Mr. Rountree and his players the benefit of the doubt. I honestly think they did nothing wrong, and should not be chastised for the actions of lazy college students.

I think you've tabbed the right favorites for the big school divisions. I would've guessed Westminster for AAA, but I haven't seen Davidson.

I'm not sure about small schools, but I know Bleckley County has come a long way from when I first started seeing them a few years ago. I hope they stop GAC.

Brookwood in 5A pretty much average among the 16, AAAAA teams at State this year.

At Brookwood, poor recruiting on the head coach's part has led to a senior class dominated by female Thespians and Valley Girl wannabe's. Along with Brookwood's junior class of musicians, sports enthusiasts, and Romeo's, the once mighty Brookwood Academic Team has fallen on lean years, relatively speaking.

But, look out. Rivals.com rates Brookwood's sophomore and freshmen classes in the nation's top 20 and a return to state and national prominence is imminent through 2010 after which the new local magnet high school will destroy competitive quiz bowl in Gwinnett County and relegate Brookwood to the status of teams in Fayette County, KY that try to compete with Dunbar!

Silly me, for believing that Rivals actually does that and for believing that Brookwood is on decline. Brookwood is still pretty good. Maybe not Dorman, but hey, who is.

How does Walton rank in the state tourney with you guys?

Please don't throw me in that briarpatch!

I'll be surprised if Brookwood is not once among the top four in AAAAA, and I think they are the team most likely to stop Chattahoochee (assuming anyone does).

Try to hold on that FR/SO group. Norcross is taking tips from the basketball program, and the AAU circuit is buzzing. Don't be surprised if there are several quizbowl transfers once the season winds down.

Gunnells, you got your wish . . .

Post by braddenton »

. . . though I don't know why you wished it. Kudos to Bleckley County, both for hosting a great tournament AND winning the 2A crown. I can't speak enough for their hospitality, or the kindness that Elaine Wade has shown me over the years.

EDIT from ETC:

I thought that the news and subsequent discussion about GATA's five-player policy compared to the four-player team is worthy of a separate discussion. So it's split into the Theory section.

No ill will towards GAC, I just thought it would be nice to see a new champ in AA, especially a program like Bleckley County that does not fit the typical profile for academic team powers ,but has made huge strides over the past few years.
