The University of Georgia Quiz Bowl Team is pleased to announce our Spring Quizbowl Tournament, to be held on April 21st on the UGA campus in Athens, GA.

FORMAT: 10 one-line, pyramidal questions followed by either a 15 question worksheet or 10 question lightning round (the team is still deciding). The last round will then be 10 multi-sentence tossups with bonuses. These bonuses will be bounce back, meaning that if one team misses a bonus, the other team will have an opportunity to answer. The distribution of categories is as follows:

4 Literature
4 Science
4 Social Studies
2 Fine Arts
2 Mythology/Religion
1 Current Event/World Affairs
1 Popular Culture
1 Math Computation
1 Social Science (This will include economics, psychology, and others.)

We will evenly distribute categories between the first and third rounds so that there are always two short literature questions, two long literature questions, two short science questions, and so forth.

COSTS: The cost will be $60 for a school’s first team and $40 for each additional team from a school. There are also $5 discounts for each buzzer system brought (up to a $10 discount) and a $5 discount for any reader or worker brought. A set of questions can also be purchased for $10. Lunch will be available to purchase in the interest of speeding up the tournament and a hospitality room will also be available for the coaches, workers, and any other adults.

Hey, just wanted to update the field/format/fees for this tournament. Here's what you need to know:

• *There will be a worksheet at halftime
  *There will be thirty point bonuses in the second half (not a big surprise but we never officially said)
  *Travel discounts are available at $5 off for 150 miles, $10 for 200, $15 for 250 -- via MapQuest distance, and feel free to talk with us if you have questions or are coming from even farther away
  *We may have a hotel discount, but not sure yet. Let us know if you plan on staying overnight so we know how big of an issue this is.

with a couple more schools that have expressed serious interest but no official paperwork yet. With those additions, we should be on our way to filling our projected 32-team field, but there are still spaces left for next weekend. We hope to see you there!

The UGA Quizbowl Club wishes to thank the twenty-two teams from across Georgia and South Carolina that attended the inaugural Tournament at the Arch. We hope everyone enjoyed the tournament and the questions, our first attempt at a house-written event.

Congratulations to Brookwood A, who defeated Dorman A in an exciting final match that came down to a tiebreaker question. James Island and Dorman B were the other semifinalists, all four of whom took home authentic Arabian lamps (courtesy of our President Emeritus in Dubai...) as trophies.

We'll post records and stats soon here and on our team website. We also welcome any thoughts, reactions, and feedback via our team email address (which you've no doubt received tons of messages from). Please let us know how we can serve you better.

In addition to all of the fine teams that made it out, I want to be sure to thank all of our team members and volunteers who helped make this event possible, especially tournament director Nick Rolader and my co-editor Paul Ruddle, both of whom pretty much sacrificed the past week to put this thing on.

Finally, we want to invite anyone who did not attend the tournament to purchase the question set. It's 10 rounds of questions that you could use for practice for upcoming national tournaments or throughout the next year. Contact us if you're interested.

Congrats on beating Dorman and holding off the invaders! Beating Dorman is always an accomplishment, but particularly so this year.
