RESULTS: Louisiana NAQT State Championship at ULL (3/31/07)

Post by The Ununtiable Twine » Mon Feb 26, 2007 12:46 am

Greetings, all! We are happy to inform every high school team in the state of Louisiana that we, the members of the UL Lafayette Quiz Bowl team, will be hosting the NAQT Louisiana State Championship on MARCH 31, 2007. I, Jake Sundberg, shall serve as the co-tournament director, playoff moderator, and statistician for this highly anticipated tournament, and Bryan Fontenot shall serve as co-director as well. If your school would like to send a team, please send notification to ALL of the following:

Bryan Fontenot at bryanfontenot@gmail.com
Jake Sundberg at dezhakeem@aol.com
Matthew E. Hayes at meh1666@louisiana.edu

Important notes regarding the tournament:

First, monetarily:
* DEADLINE for payment is APRIL 6, 2007.
* Registration is $100 / team
* $10 discount for buzzers. The maximum buzzer discount is $20 per school.
* No additional moderating discounts as we will not have the need for any.
* Please send payments to / make checks out to:

UL Lafayette Club for Academic Competition
PO Box 40483
Lafayette, LA 70504-0483

*NOTE!!! WE ARE NOT REQUIRING FOR TEAMS TO MAIL IN THEIR PAYMENTS AS THE TOURNAMENT DATE IS TOO CLOSE FOR US TO REQUIRE THIS. NOTE THAT YOU CAN STILL DO SO BUT WE WILL BE COLLECTING THE MONEY ON THE DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT, AS WELL.

Maximum participation:
* Maximum 2 teams per school.
* We are capping the field at 20 teams, and you are not officially registered in the tournament until you have paid.

In addition:
* Rounds will consist of two untimed ten question halves.

Location:
* Probable: MOODY Hall
* Possible: Griffin Hall

Starting time:
* TO BE DETERMINED.

I do believe we will be using NAQT IS-67 for this tournament. The number of seeding rounds that will be played depends on how many teams we get, as does the number of seeds.

This is the first time that we are hosting the NAQT State Championship and we're happy to be hosting it. We hope you'll come and enjoy our tournament!

Why the ambivalence on the date? I'll make it easier for you by telling you Easter is on 4/7 weekend.

Please note that the information has been updated yet again. Due to various competitions being held in our area and Spring Break / Easter, we have decided to push our tournament back to the old date, March 31, 2007. We are trying to accommodate everyone, yes.

We understand that Tulane has a quiz bowl tournament on the April 21st as well, so we didn't want to have this tournament conflict with theirs. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you are interested in coming to the Louisiana State Championships, please register as soon as possible. Due to the fact that we need to determine a moderator quota, we will be closing registration sometime in the very near future (either tomorrow or Thursday). Please register now if you plan to do so.

Thanks!

I am a native of Louisiana and taught there for 11 years before I moved to Georgia in 1986. Congrats on doing a State NAQT Tournament.

Where is Cedar Creek HS? Public? Private?

Presuming there's just one Cedar Creek, it's a private school in Ruston.

I am not sure exactly but this is either the 4th or 5th NAQT Louisiana. We did the first at Jesuit New Orleans in 2002 and I think Tulane had done it in subsequent years.
