Will any teams, particularly Brindlee Mountain, be attending Brookwood next weekend?

Results from BMHS Invitational:

1st: Indian Springs
2nd: Hoover
3rd: Covenant Christian A
4th: Scottsboro A

Indian Springs was, at one point, down 140 to -5 and managed to mount a comeback and win by around 50 points in the finals. Congrats to ISS for the third best comeback in quiz bowl I've ever seen.

Field for Covenant Christian this weekend:

Pool A:
Lincoln Co (TN) A
Brindlee Mt. B
Brindlee Mt. C
Aiken (SC)
Scottsboro B
Randolph A
Arab A
Scottsboro C

Pool B:
Lincoln Co (TN) B
Brindlee Mt A
Brindlee Mt D
Scottsboro A
Calloway County (KY)
Randolph B
Bob Jones
Arab B

This will be a new challenge for us, as we will be playing without Andy. I'm moving up a sophomore player onto the A team. The B team will be at full strength, though.

I don't know anything at all about Aiken this year, or Calloway County, Ky....

Should be interesting to see how the A team plays without Andy. I think that they will do fine.

Just don't overlook Aiken. They're a good team who has beaten LAMP convincingly and played close multiple times against James Island, quietly one of the best teams in the Southeast. And Aiken's hungry for a tournament win. Just trust me.

Great vote of confidence in your teammates...

It will be interesting to see how good Aiken is. Based on their records, I'd say that they really haven't had a chance to prove themselves yet.

Our goal is always to be competitive in our county. We play two county rivals on Monday night and haven't played or practiced since the first weekend in December. We have been hit by a virus and some of the kids are just now getting back to school. It is over six hours to Huntsville and we are coming to try and shake out the cobwebs before Monday night. Don't look for Aiken to be a major threat to the likes of BM A or B, but we look forward to the competition in North Alabama and just getting back to playing.

The only stats I looked at were '07 NAQT Nats. They lost three seniors and returned a junior who put up 7 PPG. Based on that, I figured putting them at 3rd was pretty fair.

Like I said earlier, without Andy the A-team will be a crap shoot - or a crap fest.... Depends on if Casey and Amanda decide to fill in the gap. They are VERY capable of winning this tournament without Andy, but they are very much used to letting Andy do the brunt of the work.

The B-team is at full strength, like I said before... I think that they will do well.

It shouldn't have mattered. BMHS A beat Randolph B 380-80 in the prelims only to lost to them by 45 in the final... It turns out that we dont' need Andy in order to choke.

In the prelims, the A-team averaged over 400 ppg and didn't allow a single team to score over 80 points. In fact, the Randolph B game (380-80) was the closest. In the Quarter-finals, we beat Calloway County 505-40. Then, BMHS C (our JV team) gave the A team a VERY close match in the semis which was followed by the horrendous play of BMHS A in the final.

It's disgusting. It's depressing. It's Brindlee Mountain...

I will say, though, that having Andy in the final would DEFINITELY have made the difference. I can't discuss the questions, but there were some tossups in the final round that neither team got, that I know Andy would have.

Other than the last couple of games, though, the team did an incredible job without their best player. We had 4 of the top 5 individual scorers 3 of the top 4 overall teams. But, in true Brindlee Mountain fashion, we lost to a much weaker team in the playoffs.

I posted this in the Berry Tournament thread, too... But, I wanted to let some of the Alabama folks read it:

At the Berry Tournament:

I got to witness one of the best matches I have ever seen - Brindlee Mountain B vs. Dorman A. I thought BMHS B would get slaughtered, but we were actually winning by 10 at the half-time score check. In the final six questions, Dorman went ahead by 40. Then BMHS tied it. Then Dorman went ahead by 40. Then Brindlee Mountain tied it. Etc. Etc.

Final score: Dorman A 290 Brindlee Mountain B 250.

Despite the loss, I was a proud, proud coach. My B team almost took out the #1 team in the country...

Brindlee Mountain A sucked hard.

Rickards would be more than willing to have a registration fee as low as 40 dollars per team if Brindlee or Scotsboro came to our tournament on the 16th. Same applies with pretty much any team from way up in Alabama.

Who gets 18/20 of his team's negs? This guy.

That was a fun tournament. The late start and rounds read out of order for some teams made it an odd day, but still great. Readers could've been better, but most did a good job.

From the awesomeness that is the Snead District to the sucktasticness that is the Northwest-Shoals District (outside of my alma mater and last year, Muscle Shoals)

Pool A:
1. Brooks (5-0)
2. East Lawrence (4-1)
3. Lexington (3-2)

Pool B:
1. Russellville (5-0)
2. Winfield (4-1)
3. Muscle Shoals (3-2)

Of those 6, Russellville may be the only one to make it to the state tournament.
