2nd Annual Scottsboro Invitational (Results)

Post by Matthew D »

MLK, Jackson Academy (MS), and Pensacola High players or coaches due to a hiccup in our email server, I don't have your email address any longer. Can you please email me if you are wishing to come to the tournament.

Dear Coaches,

The Scottsboro High School Quizbowl teams would like to invite you and your team to participate in the second (2nd) annual Scottsboro High School Invitational to be held on September 8th, 2007. The tournament is to be held at Scottsboro High School and we will start registration at 8:30 and conclude 9:00. I expect to begin play by no later than 9:15 am. The cost is seventy ($70) dollars per team with a discount of 10 dollars for working buzzers, 10 dollars if you travel over 200 miles as verified by either MSN Live Search or MapQuest, 5 dollar discount if you are a second team from a school.
This will be an official NAQT event all rules for official tournaments will be followed except each individual match will not be timed. Full rules can be found at http://www.naqt.com/rules.html . There will be trophies given for the top three teams and medals for the top 5 individual high scores for the tournament in both the varsity and junior varsity divisions. We will only have a junior varsity division if we have more than 6 teams in the division.
Playoff qualification information will be given at the coach’s meeting but junior varsity teams will be included in the overall playoff to allow them to qualify for the High School National Championship. Please attempt to limit your rosters to six (6) players maximum. You will be allowed to substitute between matches and at half-time (question 10) of each match. There will be more information to follow and if you have question, please call me at school or home.

Thank you and hope to see you in September,

Matt Dennis

Bumping the back up with a reminder for those teams that are out of state
Our question set is going to IS-69A
Scottsboro is 2 hours south of Nashville, take I-24 to the South Pittsburgh exit then follow US Hwy 72 to Scottsboro
We are about 3.5 hours west of Atlanta, 2 hours northeast of Birmingham, AL and 3 hours northeast of Tuscaloosa. If you need good directions on the quickest way to Scottsboro I will be glad to help out. Email [email protected]

Okay there has been a change in plans... we will now have IS 68 not IS 69A. IS 69A will be a the tournament at the University of Alabama on August 25th so there should not be a conflict on that point.

Right now I am not sure what NAQT will let us do in alabama. Our Coiunty Cham, pionship, which is extremely important to us, plays NAQT questions and has for many years. I must check which set we'll be playing before I can commit to Univ of alabama or Scottsboro.

Do you have a breakdown of how many teams each school has? Will there be a JV division?

Lee, I am working on the number of teams right now, this is what I have right now.
Yes, we will have a JV division if I have 6 JV teams. Right now, I think we have 5 if I counted right but I am not counting Buckhorn as JV till I hear from Matt. We still have room if more teams are interested

Brindlee Mountain (4 teams)
Covent Christian Academy (1 team)
Buckhorn High School (2 teams)
Scottsboro HS (2 teams)
Russellville HS (2 teams)
Pensacola HS (2 teams)
MLK Magnet (1 or 2 teams)
Lincoln County (3 teams)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! to all. I felt like everyone at the tournament this weekend did a great job. There was a lot of great competition. MLK, Brindlee Mountain "A", Walton "A" and Hoover "A" --- congratulations on your early quest for Nationals!!!

I want to thank everyone for coming and for great sportsmanship. I hope to see a lot of you back in Scottsboro on February 9 and hopefully several of you other teams will be able to join in the fun!

You got this backwards. We played Hoover. MLK played Walton.

I put the scores that I had on the Comparisons page.

Good tournament. I am curious to ask R. Hentzel about the distribution.

Does anyone know if the IS distribution is supposed to be the same as the HSNCT distribution? There seemed to be significantly less science on the IS set than at HSNCT (which is a good, good thing).
