It's always been straight TU/B. Also, I'm not sure if this is still the case, but for the past several years they have only allowed N.C. teams.

It will be TU/B, and at this point we're still planning on keeping it NC-only.

What's the contact email for those people who are not so awesome as to be regular readers of this board?

Wait, am I missing something? Am I now the contact person for the Tar Heel Cup?

EDIT: Thanks for fixing that. The prospect of having to TD two tournaments in two weeks had me freaking out.

[email protected] is the e-mail I've been using for tournament stuff, so that would probably be better if anyone wants to get in touch with me about signing up.

We currently have 28 teams, which is the maximum number we can take, but any additional teams who want to come will be put on a waiting list in case other teams back out.

Are the details essentially the same as last year (location, start time, etc.)? We've got a fall break this week and want to get out info to our parents.

Oh--and will the dining hall be open for us to use?

The start time should be essentially the same (we will probably do registration 8:30-9:00), although the starting room will be in Murphey Hall. We're still working on getting some building details finalized.

I don't live on campus anymore so I'm not 100% sure, but if it's still the same as last year the North Campus dining hall will not be open, but Ramshead (middle campus) will be. I'll try to get back to you on that.

Yeah, Rams Head (which is about as far away from Dey as Franklin St., but in the opposite direction) is open from 10:30 to 2. I think they have a Subway there now. Alpine Bagel in the Union and the mini-market in Student Stores are also open all day Saturday.

Franklin Street was just fine last year. With so many teams, we'll do our best to be back on time.

NCSSM A pulled out a fairly close one over Robinson A to win the 2007 Tar Heel Cup. Semifinalists (and the other PACE qualifiers) were Raleigh Charter A and, I think, RCB.

I'm sure Sara will be around with more accurate and detailed information sometime this weekend. Thanks to everyone who came.

We had a good time; the questions just didn't go our way in the championship game; NCSSM was very good on the science tossups in the 2nd half. Thanks to all of you for putting everything on.

Ups to Robinson and NCSSM for fielding such strong teams and spreading the hardware around.

This was the most impressive NC field I've seen, probably ever--lots of people in the mix until the very end.

I'm looking forward to the Celebrity Shoot and Richmond County!

On the way home, one of my kids asked me when was the last regular NCATA tournament at which a RC team was NOT in the finals. I couldn't remember one in my four years coaching.

Raleigh Charter is going.... good team.... great underclassmen.... potential.... Eric, damn it, I can't concentrate with that avatar of yours right there. Geez. But seriously, I was very impressed with RC's B team. I felt very lucky when we beat them in the semis.

I'm pretty sure the last Cup this applied to was... '01? give or take a year, back when it was Walter Williams and my alma mater, East Forsyth. The fact that I haven't even seen either of those teams there in the last two or three years says something about the level of Raleigh Charter's consistency.

We have won every one since that one (and of course, this one). Even though we are down this year lots of other teams are up, and that makes me really happy about QB in NC. We've still got progress to make, but we're making it.

There have been a few tournaments we haven't won, but except for a No-Buzzer Bowl or two, I think we've been in the finals of every NC tournament we've competed in. There was also our only trip to Hi-IQ like 4 years ago where we lost to CH in the semis.

That B team is all sophomores (we did alternate one junior). We're excited.

Stats for the 2007 Tar Heel Cup are now available at http://www.unc.edu/~rbruss/thc07/tarhee ... dings.html . As best I can tell, this is a combination of the round-robin and playoff games, with a few playoff games (notably RCA vs. Robinson A) missing.

They can't be all bad; I've checked 2 games against my own scoresheets and they're OK. But I only have 20% of my team's scores.

So just how many Thomas Jefferson High Schools are there in the world?

They're actually Thomas Jefferson Classical, so they taste better than New Thomas Jefferson.
