Congratulations, Ralph and Manfred!

Post by BuzzerZen »

Ralph Hexter, the president of Hampshire College (my esteemed educational institution) announced today that he married his longtime parter, Manfred Kollmeier, over Labor Day weekend. This makes Ralph the first married gay college or university president, and one of only a dozen or so gay presidents nationwide.

When I send my most sincere, heartfelt congratulations, should I address the newlyweds as Mr. and Mr. Hexter, or Mr. and...uhhh...what's the etiquette here?

May I also point out, for the benefit of the less open minded and enlightened board members, the vast courage it took for this couple to announce such an event in the right-wing, bigoted atmosphere that is Hampshire College.

Hampshire's in western Massachusetts. I love my tiny weird college; nobody knows where it is.

I wonder if there's a correlation between that and having a president who's the husband of some guy named Manfred.

I agree. Everyone thinks I'm in Knoxville, when I'm kind of in the other direction. It's great...

Not really. It's in northwesternish Illinois, three hours almost due west of Chicago.

Yes, really. It's like, 6 miles away on 74. I was just there.

I don't even know where to begin ...

..... other than this demonstrates why there is so much animosity towards geography in the Quizbowl realm.

edit: I meant Quizbowl .... not the Illinoiscentric term for it ... apologies

Isn't there some kinda college in Hanover.
