We have the following new teams that have qualified:

Bridgeport High School, WV
Capital High School, WV
Charleston Catholic High School, WV
Christian Academy of Knoxville, TN
East Lansing High School, MI
Essex High School, VT
Farragut High School, TN
George Washington High School, WV
Grosse Point North High School, MI
Londonberry High School, NH
Norcross High School, GA
Novi High School, WV
Parkersburg Catholic High School, WV
Philips Exeter Academy, NH
Rice Memorial, VT
Ripley High School, WV
Winfield High School, WV

The following tournaments haven given us results:

Vanderbilt's ABC XXXV
Tennessee's NAQT State Championship
Some NHQBL qualifiers
Michigan NAQT State Championship
West Virginia State Championship
New Hampshire & Vermon's NAQT State championship (no new qualifiers)

We also have a sizable list of events I'm still looking for results on:
  • *The fourth place team (or the semi-finalist that wasn't Rancho Bernardo B) at UCI's 11/10 event. If Edison A & Torrey Pines B tied for fourth, I need to know which team gets the nod from whoever makes that nodding decision.
*ASCA Small School Championship on 1/18/08 - the top four teams of the tournament (or each division, as applicable) qualify
*March 7th-8th - GATA State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*March 8th - New Jersey's NAQT State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*March 11th - Indiana State Championship qualifiers determined (Qualifiers get invites)
*March 15th - Arkansas' NAQT State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*March 15th - Louisiana's NAQT State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*March 29th - Florida's NAQT State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*April 1st - Wisconsin's NAQT State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*April 1st - Southern California's NAQT Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*April 1st - New Mexico's NAQT State Championship (top four teams of each division qualify)
*April 5th - UCLA's Southern California PACE Invitational

This was a college tournament. I think the only real hs team there was from Maggie Walker (and another hybrid one).

Oh right - weren't they set up to have a high school field alongside the college one, and then MW was the only team that still went? Anyway, thanks for the info.

Eh, I'm not sure. There were multiple Small School competitions, all designed to qualify small schools directly to ASCA Regionals. So, it's not really a state championship.

This might be a silly question. But when it says 2-3 teams for TJ, does that mean 2 teams and 3 pending space? Or that it's unsure through our registration how many teams we are planning to bring?

Yes, I will guarantee 2 teams (which is our standard procedure) with a third team on a waitlist if I have space by the time registration closes in early May.

Dr. Chuck,

Is it still standard procedure to waitlist a school's third team if that team has qualified? Because I believe TJ C qualified by winning the division II championship at the WoQ Saturday event. If I'm wrong, which I probably am, please let me know.

Bloomfield was going to submit a WC application, but I found out yesterday that, because the school is under audit, there is no way we can pay the 450 fee to come and play the tournament.

Sounds like being under audit is the same as being on "probation." Yipes! So they won't let you do any trips to any nationals at all?

According to my advisor, the fund from which we usually get the money to go to nationals is frozen as the school spending is being reviewed by the state, and I'm not sure I really want to press the issue with her about our own funds.

There is a comment box on the registration form (http://survey.ssg.gmu.edu/survey/entry. ... 9629819063) where you can place information such as:

* Summaries of 2007-08 season results, including tournaments played and tournament directors' contact information if possible
* Statement on the team's goals and how participation in the NSC will help toward these ends (preferably no longer than about one or two paragraphs)

Or any other information you wish to provide in support of your team.

EDIT: Alternatively, you can email etchuck@yahoo with the same, and we'll take things into consideration.

Re: 2008 PACE NSC registration information

Post by First Chairman »

As it is now May 1, and to fill all remaining spots available, ALL THIRD TEAMS ARE IN THE FIELD, AND WE HAVE REACHED 48 TEAMS. I will be confirming teams' participation (because there are things called school budgets), so registration will still be open, but will be placed on the waiting list in the order received. There is a potential team on the waitlist currently, but we are waiting for feedback.

REGISTRATION
To register go to http://survey.ssg.gmu.edu/survey/entry. ... 9629819063 . If you are missing from the list below, tell me.

QUESTION SETS MAILED TO CONTACTS
Teams have been emailed 2007 NSC questions directly as a zipped file. For security purposes so that teams can prepare for the competition, they will not be posted until after the tournament to qbpackets. We do not question-share the set so that a polite exchange of comments can take place on these forums after the competition. It is extremely important that all teams (especially those new to the NSC) use all the practice NSC materials we freely distribute to prepare; the most recent question sets emulate the standards we have set for question-writing.

ROSTERS
Team contacts should send me your rosters by email as soon as possible. We need actual names, not aliases. In particular, please notify me if your team has any three-year NSC veterans (so that this event would be their fourth; list the years 2005-2007 in which they competed [and we have record]). College choices are also requested. Please get these 4-year students' names to me by May 5 so I can order the trophies appropriately (without keeping a ton of stuff in my office).

PHOTOS
I should request photographs of each of the teams for the program booklet, but this request can go out publicly to the students as well. Please email me a nice photo JPEG of your contingent (preferably with your coach if possible). It should be a photo that is the usual nice photo in a yearbook (keep any silly photos among yourselves). With your photo, tell me what school you're from, if it's a specific roster (Team A or Team B), and the names of the people captured in the photograph.

SCHEDULE
As we have hit 48 teams, we are in the process of drafting a schedule that will maximize the number of games all teams play over both Saturday and Sunday while being sensitive to time as many of the teams are still wondering about departure times. In the past our tournament has ended by 5pm Sunday, but most teams were excused after about 1pm. We would like to get more teams to see the championship game, so we are working to see if we can consolidate the schedule without overloading our logistics and our volunteer staff. However, we expect we will maintain our 12-team championship flight schedule for the playoffs.

Thanks.... I got an email... and right now they're in as waitlist team #1. Hence it's important that I have confirmation from all the schools above with their rosters as soon as possible so I can move Wheaton North appropriately into the field. Plus it's always possible that I mis-count...

Expansion of the waitlist will depend on these things:
1) Number of volunteer staff
2) Number of declared buzzer systems

Rooms won't be as big of an issue but we have to consider the ramifications to our overall schedule if we go away from a multiple of 12, and 48 works just about perfectly (in theory). Thus I am not inclined to move the field size up without consulting David Bykowski, Jessie Bykowski, and Evan Silberman. (The Bykowskis and I are meeting this weekend to go over NSC details, so this is really the time to line up if anyone has been excluded.)

So to the enrolled teams, please confirm as quickly as possible. We have good teams that might want to get in, and I don't want to revoke a spot to a third team when they have been very patiently waiting to enter.

NOTE: 11:52 am 5/1. Paintsville is unable to attend due to graduation. Wheaton North has replaced the spot.

NOTE: 11:03 pm 5/1. Russell KY is #1 on the waiting list for now. St. Charles OH is #2.
Note: 5/6/08. Centennial is #3.

NOTE: Fordland (MO), Hickory (Chesapeake) VA, and Russell KY are unable to attend. St. Charles Prep and Centennial A take their spots, and Centennial B remains on the waitlist. ALL THIRD TEAMS ARE STILL IN PLAY!

Garfield Heights 1
James Monroe 0

I always would welcome more systems to accommodate for any possible malfunctions.
