EPIC (All Pop-Culture Tournament) 2/23 - EP, MN!

Post by klwalton33 »

Hello all,

Eden Prairie High School Quiz Bowl is excited to announce our second annual EPIC (EdenPrairie PopCulture Invitational Championship)! It will be held on Saturday, Feb 23rd at Eden Prairie HS, which is located just 20 minutes west of downtown Minneapolis. The field is capped at 40 teams and we'd certainly love to have representation from outside of MN!

The full explanation is here:
http://www.naqt.com/mqba/epic/2008/announcement.html

General points:
- The tourney is in "typical" QB format, with tossups and bonuses.

- All questions written by past and current HS players, along with a coach or two. Those current players, of course, will not play in the tournament.

- EVERY team is guaranteed 8 rounds. A random draw selects your opponents the first three rounds. Results in those rounds determine your "seed" and then the top 32 seeded teams enter a 5-round Swiss Paired bracket. All remaining teams go into a consolation bracket. (we realize this is not the most scientific way to do this, but then again, the method worked fairly well given the school layout last year, plus it's nice to guarantee everyone gets the same number of rounds in, we figure -- not to mention, it's a pop culture tournament, while extremely fun, it's not to be taken THAT seriously)

- Individual scores will be kept, and the top ten individuals will play in an All-Star Round in front of everyone at the end of the day.

- Prizes go to top teams and individuals.

Any questions? Please contact Kirk Walton, EPHS coach, at [email protected].

Thanks!

The formal announcement was just made this week, so there's only been a bit of initial activity. So far Chaska and Benilde have emailed me back, but I certainly would anticipate we'll get more soon.

As a heads-up, this tournament is reaching the maximum number of teams allowed. If anyone else is interested, you'll need to act quick!

We are full! Actually we have 49 teams but if every one of the 47 non-EP teams show up, we'll just pull one of ours.

It's going to be a great time. The question writers have been working really hard and there's a tremendous variety of topics being covered.

Looking forward to having everyone there.
