How does partcipating in 4 years of quiz bowl look on a college application and is it a huge plus or not

Depends on whether you win a national championship or not. Kidding... sort of.

While I am not an admissions officer at the undergraduate level, I work with them. I'll just say if you went to GMU, you might get some attention (since I work somewhat closely with our admissions dean), but usually it's like being a member of National Honor Society. It's what you do with it.

I don't think colleges know how to take it, especially if they've never seen it. You may want to explain that it is sort of like Jeopardy (I know that its different, but thats the most concise way to make unknowledgeable people understand). I don't think its a minus, but I don't think its a big plus, either.
