Today in practice (an old ACF Fall packet, I think):
Given: Eternal youth
Answer: Virginity

Off a clue about some mythological figures using magical baths to maintain it. For some reason it reminded me of the thing with the Norse gods and the apples. At some point last year I negged with "immortality" for "eternal youth". Now all I need to do is say "virginity" when the answer is "immortality" and the trifecta will be complete.

Awesome, Rat Race. There's a lot of stuff in that movie that could make for a reasonable tossup, from the Klaus Barbie museum to Hitler's car to the Lucille Ball impersonators to the random Smash Mouth appearance to the Squirrel Lady. I remember, though, not actually liking much of it aside from the Jon Lovitz scenes. And the cast! It even has someone named Silas Weir Mitchell!

I was sadly not playing during this round--that's my favorite line of Quantum of Solace ("We are teachers on holiday. We won the lottery.").

Seeing as how Charlie Dees is telling everyone about this, I might as well post about it...

At ACF Fall 2009:

Answer: Zach and Miri make a Porno.
Given: Sleepless in Seattle (As my teammates gesticulate in horror)

I heard "two roomates realize that they're in love" and thought of the only movie which came to mind about two friends discovering their feelings for one another. To be honest, I haven't watched either film.

So do people understand that buzzing in on a tossup asking for a Persian king and guessing the wrong Persian king, or making a minimally imprecise buzz on a common link question, is not a "bad neg" or a "funny neg," it's just being wrong about something in a way that makes perfect sense and isn't remarkable? If this thread turns into "post every neg you've ever made" it won't be long for this earth.

The main reason people at practice thought the neg was funny was because of the gender mismatch. (Also, secondarily, because "Matt Weiner just tossed up 'attempting to assassinate Elizabeth I,' WTF?" -- although I'm fairly inured to weirdo common links like that, there were some new players in practice who were really baffled.) I won't defend that any further -- should this turn into a thread consisting largely of unwinnable-by-definition arguments about what's amusing and what isn't, I would not consider that an improvement.
