BRIEF RESULTS: Hanover (N.H.) Round Robin (10/25)

Post by kcommo »

Greetings,

The Hanover High School Round Robin Quiz Bowl will be held on Saturday,
October 25th, beginning at ten o'clock and lasting until at least 2:15 -
longer for those in the playoffs. You are invited to bring one or more
teams of four members each. The registrtion fee is some snacks to share
with other schools The prizes are words of congratulations for a job well
done. (we are near Halloween, so a prize will be given to the best
costumed team and to the team with exemplary sportsmanship as determined
by the quizmasters.)

From ten to eleven we will have challenge rounds as teams arrive. There
will be rooms with special subject matter: i.e. current events, history,
literature, math, science, and other subjects as I find appropriate
questions. Come and be surprised.

From eleven to twelve we get all of the teams together for a special
competition. In the past we have had competitions between Vermont and New
Hampshire, a road rally, problem solving, questions from the Panasonic
Academic Challenge, questions related to a guest folk singer, multiple
part questions on a common theme, multiple choice questions from the
Knowledge Master Open, etc.

There will be a break for lunch from twelve to twelve-thirty. Bring a
lunch or go to the super market across the street, but you must be in your
assigned classroom at twelve-thirty for the beginning of the actualy round
robin. We will do ten, ten minute rounds which will last until two-ten.
Those schools with the best record will have a playoff that usually lasts
until about three-thirty.

Please let me know if you are coming by Monday, October 20th. If you are
coming, would you like to be a quizmaster? do you have a lockout system
to share? how many teams will you be bringing? If you know of a school
that might like to come, but is not on our mailing list, please forward
this invitation to them. All schools are invited to a fun day of
continuous competition.

Any questions?

I hope to see you on the 25th.

Whose/What type of questions are you using? What is the format of the actual rounds? Some other people here might be interested...

I think this summarizes it best: "Come and be surprised."

The actual matches are 10-minute rounds of all tossups, with all teams playing 10 rounds. I haven't been able to make the trip the last few years, but last I knew Hanover was using Academic Hallmarks questions or something similar (Patrick's Press, maybe).

If anyone has more detailed questions, I suggest you e-mail Bill Murphy as I'm fairly sure neither he, nor anyone on his team, uses this forum.

I wasn't able to make it down to Hanover this year, but from what I hear the field was considerably smaller than usual, 12 or 14 teams from nine schools in Vermont and New Hampshire.

I know Spaulding (Barre, Vt.) beat Hanover, 15-13, in the championship match. It was Spaulding's first tournament victory of any kind, so my congratulations definitely go out to them. Unfortunately, I don't have any other results, though.

I'm told members of the Dartmouth team also competed as an exhibition team so perhaps they can fill in some more information if they see this.
