Robinson Invitational IV (2/7/09) - Concord, N.C.

Post by DrakeRQB »

We will have our fourth spring tournament at Robinson HS near Charlotte on Saturday, February 7. We will have a house-written four-quarter format.

1st part - lightning round: 15 short tossups
2nd part - team-directed questions
3rd part - worksheet
4th part - pyramidal tossups

The registration form is available for download at http://www.robinsonquizbowl.com.

We will cap the field at 30 teams for the time being, but would like to go up to 36 if we can accommodate that many. Schools that have expressed interest thus far:

Christ Church
Dorman (SC)
Early College
East Chapel Hill
Hoggard
Northeast Guilford
Northwest Cabarrus
Raleigh Charter
Russell (KY)

Also, are there any past questions that we could see before deciding?

Thanks to Mr. Drake, his team members, and his volunteers for a very well-run tournament. The questions were of decent quality. There were a few questions that, in my opinion, should have been better edited, but these errors were negligible and did not take away from the playing experience.

Congratulations to Raleigh Charter for an excellent final match.

We all learned a lot from the several repeated questions.

Thanks to the Robinson staff for running an efficient tournament and still giving us plenty of time for lunch.

Thanks for the dap, Eric. Congrats on the win - you beat two very good teams in the last two rounds, but you knew that.

We had some issues with the questions, yes. I know the moderators struggled since there were no pronunciation keys, but I could have done more to prepare them by giving them the questions further in advance so I'll take the fall for that. Other than running a little long (the final didn't end until 4:45), I thought it went about as smoothly as could be expected.

We didn't keep individual stats - I'm working on getting our spreadsheet of scores compiled into something that can be neatly posted online. By the end of the week, I'll have that up.

Congrats to Raleigh Charter and James Island.

Our match with Dorman B was very heated-- if they hadn't played so aggressively, we may not have won the match. Then again, if we were playing NAQT and they retained that aggressiveness, they probably would have been quite a ways below us in scoring.

Any updates on the stats?
