It appears I've filled out my roster of moderators for the IESA State Series Matches to be held in Barrington, as follows;

Regionals: Egan & Laudermith
Sectionals: Laudermith & Laird

Now excuse me while a go off school grounds to smoke this victory cigar (victory for un-hosey, good quizbowl).

Wait, the questions are still by Questions Galore, right? I mean, those guys are good, but I imagine even they aren't capable of fixing those questions on the fly.

Ah, but at least I won't get situations like what happened tonight when a 6th grade player responded to a TU on Hippocrates by sounding it out as "Hippo-crates". He was asked to say it again, but not asked to spell it. Obvious rebound for LZ South. We won the match, but I was unhappy with that ruling, albeit unsurprised.

Oh, and the moderator explained it sounded like he was saying "hypocrites." Yeah, that's the ticket. Can't wait for tomorrow's return match where he moderates our match vs. the host school of this two-day conference tourney.

I have an idea:

Invite the local MS moderators up to watch Mike Laudermith moderate when he comes up.

Note how Mike does not favor one team ... he doesn't even appear to do so.

Note how Mike does not make weird judgments because a sixth grader cannot pronounce Greek in its most absolute native form.

Note how Mike does not permit coaches to railroad him into making calls through intimidation.

Just some things to note. Moderators can learn a lot watching Mike.
