What sort of questions do you plan on using?

20 pyramid questions with each round consisting of 1/4 soc. st., 1/4 lit, 1/4 science, with the other 1/4 coming from art, math, and music; each round consists of ten tossups, a worksheet, and ten tossups with bounce back bonuses.

I think it is something of a local custom. Presumably it would work like a bonus with more than three parts. Given the unorthodox format, it will probably be a housewrite.

HSAPQ's four quarter set is modeled after the four quarter format traditionally used in many tournaments throughout the south (Ezell, Dorman's Cav Challenge and Brookwood, to name just a few). Their are a few variations of the format, but the worksheet usually consists of 10 or 15 questions which each team is given a chance to answer. During the worksheet round (third quarter), each team is given roughly two minutes to write out their answers to the questions.

And, Ezell's tournament was house-written the two or three times I went, so I imagine it still is.

Worksheets are really common in Tennessee, the only tournament we played this year that didn't have them was UTC. At Ezell-Harding it's usually 15 questions, 2 minutes. In the three years I've played it, it's been housewritten.

We have e-mailed the invitations for our sixteenth Ezell-Harding Christian School Academic Tournament to be held on September 19 in Nashville. If you did not receive one and would like information, please e-mail me at [email protected]. If you have previously been on our mailing list, we will send you a print copy as well.

We will again use a round-robin format with each round consisting of twenty tossup questions, ten bounce back bonus questions, and a worksheet prepared this spring and summer by members of our team, as well as by faculty consultants. All rounds have five social studies tossups, five literature tossups, five science tossups, and a combination of five math, art, and music tossups. At the conclusion of the morning rounds, we will give each school a copy of the questions used for the preliminary rounds.

Our registration fee remains at $60 per team with a four-team limit per school. There will be a varsity division only though jv teams are certainly invited to compete in our tournament. We look forward to having you.
