HSAPQ 2009-2010 Question Sets Available

Post by Magister Ludi »

HSAPQ will be producing six 15-packet tournament sets in 2009-2010 in 20 tossup, 20 bonus format with power marks. Hosts can choose how to value the power marks, or choose to ignore them; hosts can also choose whether or not to use bouncebacks on the bonuses. Thus, any of our sets can be run according to the rules of any major national format. The cost to license one of these sets for a traditional invitational tournament is $16 per team in attendance. Contact Ted Gioia at [email protected] with questions or Shawn Pickrell at [email protected] to order. These sets will be similar to the "ACF-format" sets from last year, which may be viewed at http://www.hsapq.com/sample.html.

HSAPQ will also offer three four-quarter format sets in 2009-2010, which are likewise available for tournament use at a cost of $16 per team. Contact Ted Gioia at [email protected] with questions or Shawn Pickrell at [email protected] to order. These sets will be similar to the "four-quarter format" sets from last year, which may be viewed at http://www.hsapq.com/sample.html.

HSAPQ will be offering sets for use in league play in 2009-2010. The cost to license the entire league set is $70 per team participating. The league set contains 32 packets and can be formatted in any of the following ways:

* 32 VHSL-format packets
* 32 four-quarter format packets
* 28 20-tossup, 20-bonus packets with optional-use power marks

Both tournament sets and league sets will be available for use in September. Contact Ted Gioia at [email protected] with questions or Shawn Pickrell at [email protected] to order.

Why are you producing 3 Four-Quarter sets? Is there that much demand for them?

Re: HSAPQ 2009-2010 Question Sets Available

Post by Down and out in Quintana Roo »

Looking at the number of tournaments in close proximity and date to one another (especially in the Mid-Atlantic region), I am beginning to have concerns about HSAPQ sets overlapping.

I've been making a list of the competitions we're interested in attending and i'd like some clarity on what sets will be used where and how quickly new sets will be produced.

UMCP (9-26), TJHSST (10-17), VCU (11-7), and Penn (11-21) have all announced that they will be using HSAPQ as their question provider, which is great, but i'm curious as to how many of these tournaments will be using the same set since they're in somewhat close proximity of one another.

Looking forward to seeing HSAPQ's questions soon, and using them at our tournament in April hopefully.

EDIT: Typo.

What tournament does this refer to? On a Monday? Did you mean the Tar Heel Cup @ UNC on 9/26? Or did UMD announce something that I missed? Is UMD having a Fall Tourney this year?

I believe it is referring to the EXPECTED tournament at the University of Maryland on the 26th*. I'm not sure why he put the 28th. However, at this point, I'm not sure if they are even going to have a Fall Tourney.

VHSL sets have a very similar format to the four-quarter format being produced, so it's rather easy to create three four-quarter sets from the VHSL stuff.
