Packet Exchange?

Post by Nine-Tenths Ideas »

This is an idea that's been tumbling around in my head for a while. It's widely held that writing questions is one of the best ways to become good at quizbowl, and I do it occasionally. I was thinking of setting up a sort of weekly packet exchange amongst current high school players. No one is expecting anyone to write a packet a week; what I mean by weekly is simply that someone sends everyone else a packet each week, and then the packet can be used any way the others like- reading it at team practices, studying it, whatever [except, of course, using it for profit, claiming the questions as their own, or dishonest things like that.] Additionally, advice can be offered by other members on how to improve questions and become a better question writer. If someone is weak at science and thinks that any science tossup they write will be poor, they can always enlist help from a more science-minded teammate. If you are interested and are a current high school player, reply to thread and/or email me at IB[NOSPAM]Hirsch @ Gmail.com

Additionally, if anyone has any ideas on how to improve the system I've envisioned, I would appreciate hearing them.

This is intruiging and I like this idea, especially the feedback available.

This is a neat idea. My kids need to learn how to write, and i've love to get them (especially Trey) doing so. Let's see if this happens.

I rather like this idea, and I could oversee the submissions if this were to get going.

This sounds interesting. Don't expect anything from my science tossups, though.

I think there have always been attempts at packet exchanges for practice or competition purposes that have pretty much flamed out since not everyone puts in questions that meet a collectively-approved standard. I think things may be different now, and if so, I hope it works.

I have at least two WV players that would be interested in this.
