I am guessing you meant to title this 1/23/10 and not 1/17/09?

Is this going to be the same format as last year? Or are we going to get a more vanilla 20/20?

Woodford is bringing seven teams!
They are really getting a lot of experience this year.
I would like to see them improve and become competitive with Kentucky's best teams in the next couple of years.

I really hope Grayson KY gets to go.
It will be interesting to see both Graysons at the same tournament.
I am ready to see how competitive we can be with teams like Brookwood and Russell.

We'll be using a four quarter format again for the Cavalier Challenge. We use a 20/20 format for our "Season Ender" tournament in late spring.

We are about six weeks away from the Cavalier Academic Challenge, and the field is shaping up quite nicely. I am pleased to announce that we have arranged for a special rate at the brand new Comfort Suites Hotel for those of you staying overnight. This is an all-suite property that opened two months ago. It is across the street from the mall, movie theater, and several restaurants, and the rooms feature HD flat screen TVs.

$79.99/night for rooms with 1-2 people
$84.99/night for rooms with 3+ people (the rooms can hold up to 6 people)

To get the special rate, call the hotel directly and ask for the Cavalier Academic Challenge rate:

864.699.6701

Thanks, and we are looking forward to seeing you all on January 23.

WIN A BRAND NEW BUZZER SYSTEM!

The Dorman Academic Team is proud to announce that we are partnering with Food Lion Supermarkets and Anderson Enterprises to collect food for the Spartanburg Food Bank at the Cavalier Academic Challenge. For each non-perishable food item that you bring to the tournament, you'll receive a ticket in a drawing for a brand new Anderson Enterprises buzzer system. For each Food Lion branded item you'll receive two tickets. There is no limit to the number tickets that you can receive. Bring 100 items, get 100 tickets; bring 100 Food Lion branded items, get 200 tickets.

We're hoping to raise a lot of food for this worthy cause, so bring as much as you can.

Thanks. I'm hoping that the lure of a free buzzer system (if not the desire to help others) will motivate teams to bring food.

In addition, were individual stats kept? If so, will they be posted?

Not speaking for the Dorman Academic Team Program, but I am pretty sure the Dorman people did NOT keep individual stats. I do not recall them ever doing that.

I thought the Dormanites did a very good job hosting yesterday. Met all my expectations as to what a good tournament should be.

Ha! My sincerest apologies. Obviously I should have gotten some sleep before I tried to post results from memory. The post should have read:

Congratulations to Southside High School (Greenville, SC) for winning the varsity division of the 20th Annual Cavalier Academic Challenge. Dunbar High School (Lexington, KY) came in second, with Brookwood High School (Snellville, GA) & Ezell-Harding Christian School (Antioch, TN) as semifinalists. In the JV division, Dunbar won with duPont Manual (Lousiville, KY) coming in second. Chattahoochee High School (Johns Creek, GA) and Brookwood were semifinalists.

I'll post full results on Monday.

Dorman would like to thank all who attended and the many volunteers who made this tournament possible. Thanks!

Sorry, but as multiple schools purchased copies of these questions, we don't post them online.

In a perfect world, perhaps, but we have found that keeping a tournament of this size moving while keeping individual stats is virtually impossible. We do keep individual stats at our two smaller spring tournaments (SC State Championship - March 13 & Season Ender - April 17).

Special thanks must be given to the Dorman parents who hosted an awesome spread for the coaches at breakfast and lunch. It was especially impressive given the sheer number of teams.

Thanks to Eric and his team for hosting; we look forward to the Cavalier Challenge every year. (And its nice to have one tournament less than 90 miles away.)

I echo Mr. Barry's and Mr. Limehouse's comments about the the Cavalier Challenge. For such a large number of teams (over 90), this tournament ran smoothly and efficiently. I also thought this set was very good overall, with few grammatical mistakes, odd syntax, or answer choices. And, it was quite accessible to most of the teams present without being overly easy for the top 4-8 teams or overly difficult for the bottom 4-8 teams - this held true for both the JV and Varsity tournaments from what I recall.

Sorry for the delay, but our webmaster hasn't had a chance to get it on our website yet. On Monday, I emailed all the scores to the participating teams, so at least all the teams who were at the tournament have the stats. They should be up in a couple of days for general perusing.

But that doesn't mean that Kay is wrong about there being some kinds of stats to post.

Sorry again for the delay. Our webmaster is a parent volunteer, so we're kind of at their mercy. In the meantime, all the coaches who attended the tournament have the stats. If you did not attend the tournament, but would like to see the stats now, email me, and I'm happy to send them to you.

Wouldn't it be possible to attach the SQBS html files to a post in this thread like you did with a MS Word document earlier in the thread?

Not really. Those don't attach too great.

However, there is http://results.scobo.net/ , which is quite user-friendly and, generally speaking, awesome. Eric, if you're interested in tossing the stats on scobo, let me know and I'll be happy to help out.
