Depending on when this tournament is likely to start, your need for staff, and when I'm coming home, I can help staff this. Preferably you could send me an email ([email protected]) with the likely start time and I'll keep in touch.

I'll be in touch with potential staffers after the 11th, which is the deadline for registration. I've just finished our 3rd 20/0 round and sent an official invitation to coaches.

Tentatively, I will be able to play and subsequently get destroyed by most of the field at this. I'll make sure to tell you if anything changes, but it seems I can do this.

With the news that this is getting mirrored at WoQ, here's the latest word on the field. I'm almost finished with the 4th packet.

CURRENT FIELD: Greg Peterson, David Riley, Jack Glerum, Greg Dzuricsko, Julia Wang, Kevin Malis, Robert Volgman, Sam Mulopulos, Nolan Winkler, Mike Sorice, any other takers??

STAFF: David Garb, Jonah Greenthal, myself, Donald Taylor (stats), Robert Sido, Jeff Geringer, Mr. Reinstein, etc.

I still need dinner orders from: Greg, Julia, Robert V., and Sam. I'll resend the menu to you guys, and I'll also send it to Garb, Robert, Jeff, and Mr. Reinstein because I don't think you guys have seen it yet.

Friday is the last day to register!

Edit: excuse the double post

Is the Demigods division going to be run separately from the high school division? If so, I might be interested in playing.

Have you had any luck setting up a DC area mirror of this? I would be amenable to appending it to ZIGZAG, but I don't think Fr. Meehan would approve. GDS, perhaps?

Doubtful. If we did this after a main tournament, it's unlikely that we'd get even a round or two in before the building closed.

Is anyone at this tournament planning on driving back to Chicago after this that has a couple empty seats? It looks like all our transport-capable members are going to be leaving before this. I could probably find a parent to do it, but I'd hate to have them drive out to NT and then turn around.

You DC teams (and anybody else not going to the main site) should just come play this set at the Weekend of Quizbowl.

Eh, if we go to WoQ, we lose eligibility for the Mid-Atlantic Championship and miss a chance to play Ben Cooper. Sorry, but it isn't convenient.

It kind of sucks that I won't be able to play in this; not because I ever thought I'd do well, though. I just think it would be great to see these demigods play on lit questions against one another.

I'm missing a dinner order from Sam M. I've also heard tell that Marcel is interested in playing, and that the St. Ignatius kids who aren't on the boards are first learning of this after school today. Hopefully Marcel will play--if that's the case, I need one more reader.

Format-wise, D1 will play a full round robin on Packets 1-5. There will then be an ACF Final splitting Packet 6 into two half-packets. D2 is a little bit tricker. I think I will split it into two round-robin brackets for Packets 1-4. Then the bracket winners will play a 1-game final on Packet 5, the bracket runners-up will play 1 game for 3rd place, and so on. If anyone has better suggestions, let me know.

Re: High School Lit Singles Tourney (after NTV, 12/19/2009)

FINAL FIELD:
Division I (Demigods): Ben Cohen, Jack Glerum, Jonah Greenthal, Matt Laird, Craig Messner, Greg Peterson, David Riley, and Mike Sorice
Division II (Mere Mortals): Andrew Deveau, Greg Dzuricsko, Kevin Malis, Sam Mulopulos, Jules Reich, Steve Server, Robert Volgman, Julia Wang, Nolan Winkler, and Marcel Youkhna.

STAFF: Dan Donohue, David Garb, Jeff Geringer, Alex Harrison, Charles Martin, Mr. Reinstein, Robert Sido, and Donald Taylor (stats)

This will be the final field. Format-wise, D1 will play 2 R.R. brackets of 4 then be rebracketed into 2 R.R. brackets of 4 (ties broken by PPG). D2 will be split into 2 R.R. brackets of 5. Then the bracket winners (record then PPG) will play a 1-game final, the bracket runners-up will play 1 game for 3rd place, and so on. We still need two more readers!

An official email will be sent out to everyone tonight, confirming your dinner orders/presence at the tournament. Staffers should also be on the lookout for an email with all the packets.

This is not what an ACF-format final is.

If Marcel doesn't play, then you can read and we're fine. If he plays, I need you for the even number. You gotta let me know though.

This was fun! I had a great time, thanks to Dan for coordinating this and to all who wrote for it and moderated it.

Thanks to everyone who made VIOLATEDD a success.

Even though Lloyd Sy and I were the "original" writers of this (and we wrote a lot), Tanay Kothari contributed more than a packet, and Donald Taylor stepped up in a big way last night, helping me the finish the necessary 6th packet. Also a special thanks to Graham Moyer who edited Rounds 1-3 (and maybe 4, I forget).

Thanks to all the staffers. In addition to those listed in the original post, Donal Terell and Tom Egan also moderated. Donald Taylor did a great job with stats. And Jeff Geringer read the wrong packet

Thanks to all those who played. Those of you who actually paid your $15 (which was most of you) helped me raise about $180 for my trip to NSC.

And, finally, the biggest thanks of all goes to Mr. Reinstein and New Trier for letting me host this after NTV (congrats on an awesome tournament, btw). I had a great time with this set, and once I edit it some more, it will be played at Weekend of Quizbowl.

Stats:

Demigods combined

Mortals

And I just broke my flash drive in two while it was sticking out of my computer. FML. Anyways, the Mortals stats include the scores of all 6 rounds, so they're not best. When I get a new flash drive, I'll fix all this. Or Jonah or Donald can if they're so inclined.
