South Carolina Challenge (12/5/09)

Post by scquizbowl »

This weekend, at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, they will be holding a quiz bowl tournament. It has been held for many years, and it will be done by the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

James Island didn't go to the tournament last year, but we will this year. Also, Wando will be coming, along with lots of other teams from around the state.

Here is the website for the event:

Who else is going?

I'm not sure what the field is. I'm pretty sure that Southside and Dorman will not be there. Usually the field consists of a bunch of teams that don't play a ton of mainstream quizbowl (which this tournament certainly will not be), along with James Island and Irmo. That's probably what it will be like this year. I posted a little more information about this tournament here: http://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 23#p149083 .

James Island lost in the first round of the playoffs, but Aiken and Riverside competed in the finals, and Aiken beat Riverside in the finals to take the USC Challenge, and win the overall title. 30 teams competed, as Riverside won the 3A title.

Good thing that taking more teams and running single-elim is more fair than rebracketing the top teams because in the latter scenario one loss removes you from championship conte--

Actually, each class has its own champion, which depends on how far you get in the tournament. Aiken won in 4A, Riverside in 3A for finishing 2nd, and Southside Christian for losing in their round.
