2010 HSNCT Fiesta!

Post by kayli »

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a small social event at HSNCT. We could do random things like play twister or monopoly or video games or poker. There's also the opportunity for an epic game of hide-and-seek or mafia. If we decide to do it, it'd be a BYOB kind of event (unless some kind soul wants to supply some refreshments :D).

I'd love to participate in something and meet various people from around the country. I'm getting in late Friday night, and leaving early Monday morning, so either a Saturday night or Sunday night thing would work for me.

Don't hide in the rooms with the shibaricon people, because that may not end so well.

Pensacola is coming in Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday night. It could be done Friday after practice rounds. Alternatively, there's a lot of down time after Saturday matches; but some teams might want to get their beauty sleep.

I'm probably busy with a host of other stuff, but if anyone sets up a game of Stratego, I'll be there.

If any teams are arriving one day early, Thursday night is an option. I know that's the case for us.

I'm down whenever this is held but would obviously prefer it if other Illinois people participated (and if it were held after practice rounds which I'm required to staff I think). Hide and seek in the Hyatt could be amazing.

For myself? Unnecessary, as my coach has one that he uses for translation stuff. You, however, will need to find a copy of Midnight's Children for me. I'm pretty sure Blackhawks are already on the Endangered Species List, and in another four games, they'll be back home.

Hide and seek could be troublesome. I'm up for board games or cards. Or LAN parties.

Hey, there's some other event going on in the hotel that weekend--you could hide in plain sight!

I think there will be just as much seeking out of such events as hiding going on.

Then I guess we'll have to hope the final doesn't go into overtime.

Oh, and if I were going to be at HSNCT (I'm not), I'd bring Kingsburg with its expansion, as well as Witch's Brew. Maybe also Clans, Ingenious, Ilium and Great Wall of China. And then Cheeky Monkey for sheer silliness.

Ultimate Frisbee is amazing as well. Is there a park nearby where this can happen?

Mmm not really. It's kind of a busy, urban area what with the proximity of O'Hare. But Ultimate Frisbee could probably be made to work somewhere. I think there might be some kind of forest preserve with an open field in back of the hotel?

Or we could play Nerf. People would have double the fun packing toy weapons while standing in airport security lines.

Forget parks, the lobby would be a blast.

I hope those of you who are getting in early have some time to visit the city and do fun stuff outside the confines of the hotel (if you can fit it into your busy hide-and-seek-and-frisbee-and-nerf-weapons schedule).

There are numerous clearing/picnic-type areas in the Cook County Forest Preserve that surrounds the Des Plaines river in the vicinity of Rosemont/Des Plaines/etc (and one on the other side of Dee Rd. from Maine South HS). Probably not walking distance from the hotel, but if you can hitch a ride, that would work.

At ICT, we really annoyed everyone by tossing a disc in the big auditorium. It was a good call.

So is anything happening? I really want to meet some new people... If anything ends up going on either Sat night or Sunday afternoon/night, can someone let me know through some method? PM/email me to get my phone number.

There will probably be plenty of new people playing the history tournament on Saturday night, and it'll be a fun way of meeting people, if the geography side event was any indicator.

Sorry I missed this, and thus didn't show up, I thought I would be able to get HSQB boards on my phone, but ran into some errors. I ended up going to the history tournament and scorekeeping.
