The University of Delaware will be hosting one of the mirrors for the ACF Early Autumn Collegiate Novice tournament on September 18 in Newark. The registration will begin at 9AM, and our goal is to get the team meeting started by 9:30 and the tournament started by 9:45. The tournament will be held in Willard Hall Educational Building (edit: not Purnell, so different from last year's tournaments). Here's some more specific logistics:

Parking
For parking, follow the signs for either the CFA or Trabant Parking Garage (not free, but there's no free parking at UD anyway ).

Fee Schedule
The fee for this tournament will be $15 per player, so a normal team will cost $60. There will be a discount of $5 for each working buzzer system, and $10 for each competent staffer, with a minimum of $5 per player.

Eats
For lunch, there's a lot of places on Main Street as well as the Trabant Center nearby. Here's a link to a map with some suggestions.

Eligibility
Here's the eligibility information from the main thread:
1. All ACF eligibility rules apply, except when they contradict the rules below.
2. This is a tournament for introducing collegiate novices to quizbowl. Consequently, no high school teams or players are eligible.
3. Anyone (who does not break Rules 1 or 2) who has never played quizbowl before is automatically eligible. Other academic competition does not count as quizbowl for this rule.
4. Players meeting one or more of the following criteria must apply to the head editor for special permission to play:
i. If you have already completed your second year of college (calculated from time in college, not credits).
ii. If you were ever on a playoff team at NAQT HSNCT or PACE NSC.
iii. If you have ever scored at least 30 points per game at any college tournament.
iv. If you have ever won any college tournament.
5. Anyone who does not fall into any of the four categories listed in Rule 4 is automatically eligible to play.

Registering/Further Questions
If you would like to register or if you have any further questions regarding this mirror, please contact me at [email protected]. Please, when you register, give me the number of teams, staffers, and buzzers that you are bringing. Thanks.

Field Update
Penn (4)
House (4)
At the moment, we are still waiting to hear from local smaller colleges that we made requests for teams to.

Mehdi,

I know this probably belongs on the HS Forums, but I saw your moniker and could not resist: Any news on Penn's QuAC and what question set you'll be using? These issues have come up recently on the DC/VA/MD Date Claim Forum for 2010-2011. Care to make any formal & clarifying statements for QuAC?

Who do I ask to get permission to play in this? (and should I even bother asking?)

Just a quick field update: Upenn is now up to 4 teams. The house will be fielding either 2 or 4 teams, one of which will be Alex Gross by himself.

I don't have stats but James from Penn won the tournament playing solo.

We're training a new stats person, so we're going to be a little slow getting stats up. Please bear with us.

A quick summary: we had 3 U Penn Teams and 3 house teams. We did a double round-robin. James, from U. Penn won (I think he went 10-0, but I'm not positive) The questions were well edited. The difficulty was very reasonable - I don't recall any round I read where more than 1 question went dead.

I think the standings were something like:
1) Penn 3 (James), 9-1
2) Penn 1, 8-2
3) Delaware 1 (Alex), 5-5
4) Delaware 2, 5-5
5) Delaware 3, 2-8
6) Penn 2, 1-9

Of those who played, everyone from Penn was a freshmen except one sophomore, and they all answered questions and got a positive experience out of it despite varying levels of previous experience. I gleaned the same from the Delaware people. The set's difficulty was as advertised. I only wish more teams could've played at this site.
