The Quizbowl Resource Center

The University of Alabama is proud to announce that the Region 6 SCT will take place on February 5, 2011 on our campus. It will be taking place at the Ferguson Center, which is a change of location from our previous tournaments.

Region 6 consists of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico, but if teams from outside our region wish to come to our tournament because it is the location closest to them, we would be more than happy to accommodate them.

Our fee structure:
$120 base fee for the first team
$100 fee for each team after the first
-$20 for each team new to SCT
-$30 for each experienced moderator
-$10 for each working buzzer system
-$5 for each working clock

If you would like to notify us of your interest, email us at aaqt AT bama DOT ua DOT edu. Registration closes 2/1/2011.

Parking and other information will be emailed to registered teams the week of the tournament. This information may include the announcement that lunch will provided for teams courtesy of the Ferguson Center, although this has not yet been finalized. We might also have t-shirts.

Any update on the field for this?

Field updates for all of the SCT sites can be found on naqt.com. (Granted, only a single team has actually registered for this site yet.)

Thank you, Jeff. I was not aware this was listed on NAQT's site. I was hoping that someone for UA could let me know if their field is as scarce as it appears to be, or if other teams have simply expressed interested and intend to register once there? I am currently the only member of UF that is attending, and I would much rather go to Orlando for ACF Regionals if no teams are going to show up.

In general, there are lots of teams all over the country that have expressed interest but not yet registered, so it's safe to wait a while before worrying about small field sizes.

ACF Regionals at UCF are on March 5, Ethan, so you don't have to choose between SCT (Feb. 5) and Regionals. Also, I know UCF plans to send a team to the Region 6 SCT, so I'll remind them to go register at the NAQT site.

WKU will probably send a Division II team to this site, although we're not gonna register until next week probably.

We have a couple of other interested teams who have yet to register, but we hope to have a pretty large field by tournament time.

As of right now, we have 10 DII teams and no DI teams registered. I'll be sending out an email later to regional teams that are active but not yet registered and encourage you all to sign up.

Just a reminder that registration closes on the 1st. We are still holding at 10 teams.

Also, lunch will be catered FOR FREE courtesy of the Ferguson Center which is our student union, co-sponsor, and a member of ACUI.

An informational email will be sent out to registered teams on Wednesday, more than likely.

UF will be sending 1 D1 team. Also, I might be attending both ACF Regionals and NAQT sectionals, so I will be there for you to ridicule.

Well, we surely look forward to playing against you guys at both tournaments, as we will also be in attendance at both. There may be some inclement weather, so be careful coming up to Tuscaloosa.

I would definitely like to thank U of A for catering this tournament. Very few tournaments provide free lunch, and this was above and beyond anything I had ever seen at a quizbowl tournament. I feel A.J. did an excellent job running things. The one hiccup we ran in to was handled well and we were able to get in 12 rounds and be on the road by 4:30 (which allowed us to drive straight back to Gainesville). Hopefully next year we can get more than 4 division 1 teams in.

It looks like NAQT has stats up here. They seem to be pretty accurate, the only thing that jumps out at me is that I know that North Georgia didn't have 45 PPB in their 10th round match against us.

Anyway, I'd like to thank Alabama for a well run tournament. I really liked the Ferguson Center, and providing lunch was a wonderful thing for you all to do. It looked like you all put a lot of effort in to having a good event, and WKU appreciates that your hard work. We look forward to coming back to Tuscaloosa for a tournament sometime. Also, congratulations to Alabama and Georgia Tech for their championships, I wish you all luck at ICT.
