IO Mirror at Penn (3/5/11)

Post by Lapego1 »

The University of Pennsylvania will be hosting a mirror of Illinois Open on March 5, 2011 in Philadelphia, PA. Anyone can play regardless of affiliation and it requires no packet submission.

Base fee per team: $120
Competent Moderator: -$10 each
Functional Buzzer: -$10 each
Distance: -$10 per 200 miles traveled
Min Fee per school: $60

Further discounts can be arranged for completely new or depleted teams. Registrations should be sent to [email protected]. You can contact me at that address with other questions or post your questions here.

Location/Timing/Parking: Will be updated when confirmed. For now, enjoy a searchable map: http://www.facilities.upenn.edu/map.php.

Payments: Checks should be made out in my name--"Mehdi Razvi" (preferable) or to "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania" should a more official name be necessary. You should arrange to pay me the morning of the tournament. Otherwise, you should e-mail me in advance giving me an expected date of payment. I'll have invoices for everyone on the day of the tournament and can provide them earlier if necessary.

We'll be there with 1-2 teams.

EDIT: Or will we? This seems to be the same day as DWI. Should this tournament perhaps be moved to a different date?

Yeah, we're going to change the date of this since it's currently on our Spring Break anyway. Will get back to you soon, probably after Penn Bowl.

Delaware seemed to indicate at SCT that DWI was canceled this year.

If DWI is actually canceled, it seems like 3/5 would certainly be the preferable date to host this mirror - is that just not a possibility for you guys?

I am probably attending this tournament as a free agent, and possibly playing solo.

There is now a finite possibility of me coming to this and, by the looks of it, playing solo. Can we get some sense of a field update?

We'd really like to go, I presume on this date, but can we get a confirmation that it's actually happening?

I'd like to have time to make plans for transportation, so I'll echo Chris and ask if someone from Penn can confirm this tournament is taking place.

It's almost certainly not going to be able to occur on 3/5 due to Spring Break. I will update this later today once a more suitable date has been found.

Oh well. More time to write questions for Nationals I guess.

Any word on this? I need to decide whether to go to the main site or not.

Hey so I emailed Mehdi a long time ago (Thursday) and have tried to get Eric to get in touch with him about this. Needless to say, I think its inappropriate to leave me or the community hanging about this with such short time left.

At this point, I'm going to assume there is no tournament at Penn and am soliciting for a delayed mirror at another site on the east coast. If you are interested in mirroring this let me know, otherwise I'll email people later in the week.

Can I just point out how thoroughly unacceptable it is for the ostensible TD of this tournament to completely fail to either post in the tournament thread or to respond to inquiries? This is part of an unfortunate trend I've been observing lately with tournament organizers dropping the ball on, you know, actually organizing the tournament, and it needs to stop.

For whatever it's worth, I'll put in a vote for March 19th here, assuming MUT isn't running that day.

If memory serves, we were at W&M that MUT is in fact happening at Maryland on March 19.

Yeah, I just put our announcement up - as mentioned there, if Penn isn't able to host this event, we could look into hosting it on Sunday as a combo deal with MUT.

I'm on spring break the 3rd week of March, so If this tournament were mirrored at UMD on Saturday the 19th or Sunday the 20th I would play.

Someday, perhaps we shall learn the truth-value of this proposition. Presumably on a day that is not this coming Saturday.

Having been told by Ike that Penn is presumably no longer interested, Maryland's announcement is up at http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =8&t=11266.
