BLASTOISE Mirror @ University of Delaware (4/23/11)

Post by mcgroth »

The University of Delaware is planning to hold a mirror of BLASTOISE [Bell-Lisgar Academic & Sexy Trash Open Inside the South-East] on Saturday, April 23rd, 2011. This is a half-academic/half-trash tournament comprised of packets being submitted to the original event at Lisgar on March 26th. However, as this is originally a Canadian event, the folks at Lisgar have kindly given us permission to replace any "excessively Canadian" questions in the set with more Americanized ones of our own in order to accommodate the attendees of our mirror. The academic replacement questions will be written by Alex Gross, while the trash replacement questions will be written by myself.

This tournament is open to teams at both the high school and college levels, as well as non-affiliated free agents.

The cost to attend is $50 per team. A $10 refund will be made per buzzer system brought.

More specifics (approximate starting time, etc.) will be announced soon.

To register, email me at mgroth[at]udel[dot]edu, or post here. When registering, please state how many teams and buzzers you are bringing.

For more information on BLASTOISE, see the original thread: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 19&t=10982.

Updated Field (as of 4/21/11):
Concord HS
Richard Montgomery HS
Charter School of Wilmington
NYU (2)
Pitt
Penn
Piranha Club
Mystery Team
1-2 Delaware house teams
1 free agent

So I don't get to play on bonuses about Brier-winning skips of the 1970s?

I'm afraid not. Apologies for the letdown.

It's questions like these that plague the Canadian high school trivia format.

For anyone wondering, a team of Chris Ray and Ben and Sid from Penn swept for the field, with a team of myself, Mehdi and Ozzie coming in second. I assume stats will be up eventually?

Yes, I'm working on that. (Someone else has the stats. I'll see about getting them up ASAP)

Well, this is charming, Penn. You can't be bothered to attend a national tournament in your own state (not you, Dan Puma, you are my quizbowl hero), but you've still managed to carve out some time to play a trash hybrid written by Canadian high schoolers. I'll let you know when I've discovered words that sufficiently express my contempt for you.

My thesis was due three days after Nats, man, so don't rage on me. This tournament served as a convenient stress release the next Saturday.

My thesis was due the Thursday in between ICT and ACF; I went to both. It's silly one way or the other.

When you care about something, you find a way to make it happen. My thesis defense was two weeks after Nationals last year; I still managed to make it to both, because I wanted to, so I made it work. You clearly have other priorities than playing quizbowl, and that seems to hold for most of the rest of your team as well. No matter how bad the logistics were at Nationals, I am now very happy we didn't choose to have it at Penn. You would have just spent that money on some bullshit trash tournament anyway.

Quizbowl is for losers with no life who are probably immoral sex perverts, Jerry. Don't you even listen to the rest of the Penn team?

You all (especially you, Jerry, since I still desire your autograph which I don't want to wait till CO for) are invited to Toronto's BLASTOISE mirror on May 21st (especially the immoral sex perverts-I'll show you a good time). For the record, it was university part-edited and part-created, and it's only half-trash.
