Andrew Jackson Open at UCLA March 5, 2005

This is an announcement for the Andrew Jackson Open to be held Saturday March 5, 2005 on the campus of UCLA. Here’s the vital information:


Fee Structure:
Base Fee: $100
Second Team: -$20
Third (or more) Team: -$30
Acceptable Packet submitted by October 20, 2004: AT COST*
Acceptable Packet submitted by January 2, 2005: -$40
Acceptable Packet submitted by February 1, 2005: -$15
Acceptable Packet submitted by February 15, 2005: +$10
Play without a packet: +$30
Working Buzzer System: -$5 each (maximum of 2)
Minimum Fee: AT COST*

* Teams that submit a packet by the early deadline, AND bring at least one working buzzer will only pay the cost to UCLA College Bowl of accommodating one team. That is, if it costs UCLA $200 dollars to reserve rooms, print packets, buy prizes, etc. and there are ten teams, an at cost team will pay $20 dollars to play.

PACKET SUBMISSION:
All packets should be submitted to the editor, Steve Kaplan at stkaplan2005 at lawnet dot ucla dot edu. Difficulty should be similar to that of other west coast invitationals. Acceptability is to be determined by the editing crew at UCLA. Unacceptable packets will be returned for revision.

PACKET TRADE:
We would like to trade questions with another March tournament with a similar distribution. Please e-mail me at the above address if you are interested.

FREELANCE PACKETS:
Freelance packets will be rewarded with a copy of the entire tournament set, to be sent out within a week of the tournament’s conclusion. If this compensation is unacceptable, feel free to e-mail me at the above address to negotiate something more to your liking.

REGISTRATION:
Let me know how many teams your club is sending and how many packets
you expect to submit.
