The Quizbowl Resource Center

Greetings, everyone! I’m excited to announce the 2013 Missouri Open, hosted by the University of Missouri. The main event of the tournament is an ACF Fall-difficulty set written primarily by me, Itamar Naveh-Benjamin, with contributions from Charlie Dees and the University of Missouri Quizbowl Club. There will be a Charlie Dees-written side event available to play after the main event. The tournament will take place on July 6th.

Roughly 30% of the tournament has been written thus far, and it is on pace to be completed by late May. The tournament will feature thirteen 20/20 powermarked packets.

Eligibility: As with other open tournaments, this tournament is open to high schoolers, college players, and other interested parties alike.

Registration: If you would like to register a team to participate in the Missouri Open, please email me (Itamar Naveh-Benjamin) at [email protected] with "Missouri Open" in the subject line. Similarly, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email or PM me.

We are not setting a field cap on this tournament. If, however, we receive an unexpectedly high number of registrations, we will assess our staffing situation to make sure we can accommodate all interested parties.

Payment:
Base fee: $80
Working buzzer system: -$10
Travel discount: -$10 for traveling over 200 miles
Minimum fee: $60

Mirroring:
We are looking for mirrors; the earliest mirror date will be July 6th, same as the central location. We will allow mirrors to take place through the rest of the summer and the fall.

The fee for mirroring the set will be $15 per team that attends your mirror. Please email me if you are interested in mirroring the set!

Scheduled mirrors:
University of Illinois-Chicago in Chicago, Illinois on July 13th
Valencia College in Orlando, Florida on July 13th

Tentative mirrors:
University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, in Summer 2013
Virginia Tech on July 6th
Penn State in Fall 2013

This tournament is indeed taking place at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.

I updated the main post with another tentative mirror.

Updated the field with three registrations.

Did we ever get an answer to this rather pertinent question?

Worry not, for I hear that the main site will be using a complete set.

Ben is correct -- the set will be ready for Saturday. We are currently putting the finishing touches on it. I will have it emailed to all mirror TDs by Friday night.

Oh, right, my side event. The mystery theme is that it's vanity as fuck and all about music on my laptop's hard drive, except some of you may know my laptop stopped working soon after I started to work on the tournament, making it rather difficult to write. I got my laptop back to working within the last couple weeks but I needed to finish the music for Missouri Open first so the side event isn't happening until I'm more free to actually write it. Also, I have finished the auditory arts for MO (they're incredible and are going to change the way you view the world) and can add my voice to the confirmations that the rest of the set is being pulled together and will be sent out on time.

Thanks, Cody - yeah, I requested a subforum from two different moderators, and I think both complied. However, I think one of them was shut down, so there should only be one now.

On a side note are the two games not in the stats going to be entered? I have my record from our room.

Please email them to me - the moderators from those games never gave me the scoresheets.

The Chicago area mirror this Saturday (July 13th) is being held at Fenton High School in Bensenville, not at UIC.

Itamar, we at Valencia haven't heard back about our e-mail reminders to send the packets for our mirror to Boris Nguyen for printing (yeah, we're old-fashioned that way). It's really important (critical, actually) that Boris have those packets before Friday morning (July 12) so he can print before the college closes at noon. Chris Romero is hosting a mirror of this tomorrow in Texas as a warm-up for the advisors at the quizbowl camp he's running.

Heyo, John Slimak from PSU here. We are still planning on hosting a mirror in the fall. Our current date for the event will be September 28th. We're figuring out the last little bits of logistics and we'll get our event announcement up before the end of the week.
