STIMPY at Yale (4/4/15)

Post by vinteuil »

Hi everyone!

Yale Student Academic Competitions is pleased to announce our mirror of STIMPY, a collaboration between us and Maryland, on 4 April, 2015. Full details about the tournament can be found at the global announcement: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16524. I also personally apologize for the delay in this announcement; I somehow forgot that I hadn't actually posted a full announcement.

Registration will begin at 9AM and games will start promptly at 9:30. To register, please email me at [email protected], and include "STIMPY" somewhere in the subject line.

Per the global announcement, our packet submission requirements are the same as those of ACF:
Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament (either as a college student or as a high school student) prior to September 1, 2013 is required to submit a packet.
Fees

Base fee: $100

Discounts:
-$5 per working set of buzzers (must include at least eight functional units that light up and make noise)
-$10 per approved staffer

Minimum fee (NOT INCLUDING PACKET DISCOUNTS): $65

Payment — check or cash — is required on or before the day of the tournament. We will supply invoices upon request. If you plan to pay by check, the check must be made out to “Y. Student Academic Competitions.” Do NOT make checks payable to “Yale Student Academic Competitions.” Checks should be given to us on the day of the tournament, or, if that's not possible, can be sent to:

We weren't anticipating a particularly large tournament (we won't be able to accommodate more than 12 teams, actually), but it would really be lovely to see more people register. If you're thinking of coming, and haven't actually emailed me yet (e.g. AIDAN), please do so!

Just sent out a logistics email: we'll be at the hilariously named "Linsley-Chittenden" hall

To be clear, all reservable buildings at Yale are shitty. Thank your stars that you won't find yourself trapped in the DungeonHall of Graduate Studies.

If the field remains as it is, what schedule would presumably be used? (along with a guess for finish time, if you can)

I sent these details to Will in that logistics email. Round robin, then three brackets of 3.

Columbia beat MIT A 440-220 in a one-game final to win this tournament. MIT B placed third; we should have complete stats by Monday.

Thanks to everyone who came out!

This definitely happened.

In other news, thanks a ton to Yale for hosting a great tournament and putting together a rather good question set. Definitely looking forward to playing more creations of the "new" Yale team in the future!
