The Fort Osage High School Scholar Bowl team is pleased to announce the release of...
"YO, Pass the AUX cord, You'd Better Not Read" TRASH event!
This set was originally used as a 10/10 for our TRASH trivia tournament on Feb. 9th. It was only 4 packets (an EP, if you will...), but has now been turned into a 6 packet 20/20 set. This mixtape is ready to drop for any team who would like to have a Trash set for practice, fundraising, a good laugh, etc.... Prices are negotiable, and its sequel will be due in October, so I will leave it open until then...
Here is the question breakdown:
3/3 Vintage music (pre-1970's, 1970's-1980's)
3/3 Modern music (1990's-today)
2/2 Vintage movies (pre-1960's, 1960's-80's)
2/2 Modern movies (1990's-today)
2/2 Vintage sports (pre-1960's, 1960's-80's)
2/2 Modern sports (1990's-today)
2/2 Vintage TV (pre-1960's, 1960's-80's)
2/2 Modern TV (1990's-today)
3/2 Other (memes, video games, etc.)
None of these are exact, because we did choose topics we liked...

1. It was written for a mixture of Scholar Bowl players, parents, and others, so it's pretty PG-13, but with an appropriate dose of memes, horror films, etc. But with some ice cold adult beverages, it might be even better...
2. I think I trapped it pretty well, but tracks 5 and 6 might be the most difficult, since they weren't used at all...

EDIT: In seriousness, I'd be happy to collect some money or organize teams, but I don't want to get into a room/buzzer corral mode.

I don't know how running side events at NAQT tournaments works; is there the possibility of using game rooms?

Seems like there's pretty good interest for this. With only 6 packets, we're a little limited in format, but it would be really easy to draw up a schedule for a 6-team round robin, and we can do either quads or teams of 5 depending on interest.
In any case, I'm planning on playing this with Rob, Tejas, and Erik Nelson.

Lots of people, at least the one's I'm in contact with, have some sort of plan for Saturday night. So, doing this on Friday night after scrimmages, etc. are over would probably be best. Someone should set up a team spreadsheet!

We should probably arrange some logistics for this! I assume since Mike and I are both playing we'd be fine using our room as one of the game rooms. Do we want to meet on the lobby level (outside of where team checkin was) at like 945-10?

It would possibly be simpler if we could just some nearby gamerooms that already have buzzers in them (provided we don't damage them).

Yeah, if we only need three rooms, let's just use some gamerooms, maybe in the airport wing, which would be right next to other and have buzzers set up (JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE EQUIPMENT).
Hopefully we can get three staffers; if not, we will have to use a bye moderator thing. I have the packets and will distribute them. I will also collect the $5 per person.

Seems reasonable, other than the fact that there are no bye teams due to the format.

We have six teams but are in need of an additional moderator; if you are able to moderate please put your name down on
the spreadsheet and meet in the lobby at 9:30 once scrimmages are done. Otherwise we'll have to resort to impressment.

So I ended up reading for this...and here's a quick summary of the games played in my room (since I forgot to get y'all my scoresheets):
Round 1: Team 3 (Auroni et al) --- 390 .... Team 5 (HS folks) --- 110
Round 2: Team 2 (Cheyne et al) -- 610 .... Team 3 (Auroni et al) --- 85
Round 3: Team 1 (Rob et al) ------ 585 .... Team 4 (Shaw et al) --- 220
Round 4: Team 4 (Shaw et al) --- Win ..... Team 5 (HS folks) --- Forfeit
Round 5: Team 6 (Sorice et al) -- Win .... Team 5 (HS folks) --- Forfeit
I ended up reading the 2nd half of a final, with the final two teams being Team 6 vs. Team 2.
Final score: Team 2 (185) --- Team 6 (170).

It's pretty easy, but there's also some presumably very hard answerines for high schoolers. Actually looking at the full text of the questions, a recurring quirk is that a much easier clue is placed before harder ones, so some (some) of the very easiness stems from this as well.
