What are the eligibility restrictions/ policies on open teams for this tournament? I just realized this tournament is less than three hours away from me and I might consider coming if I don't have to play solo.

Penn Bowl is closed, unfortunately, but this is a nice reminder that Kingston is only about a two hour drive from Syracuse (about 130 miles) - basically a straight shot up I-81, for any Upstate NY teams.

I don't know if I'd be able to make it work on short notice for next weekend, but it looks like the field for this site is pretty small. Given that the main Penn Bowl thread has no discussion of official eligibility requirements and neither do any of the mirrors (aside from Stanford, which was apparently given permission to have open teams), I think this is something Penn Bowl folks (and other non-ACF/NAQT tournaments) should reevaluate for the benefit of having richer (and more lucrative) fields. Maybe this is deserving of its own thread, but I think the spectre of open "superteams" is pretty unfounded. I mean, someone like myself isn't going to run roughshod over collegiate competition any more than elite high school teams already do. I'm not looking for teammates to win the tournament; playing quiz bowl is just more fun with teammates.

We have late permission to allow open teams at this site to boost field size from Penn, which is now reflected in the addition of Erik Christensen's team in the latest field update. I'm going to close the field on Thursday to give time for anyone else who would also like to come.

(edited to add registration close date)

Logistics have gone out to the teams, and the field is now closed at six teams. See you Saturday!

Congratulations to Toronto A, who cleared the field at 8-2, ahead of Toronto J, Toronto C and the Open Team, who all went 6-4. Thank you to all the teams who came from Toronto and the US today (seriously, everyone who played was from one of these two locations).

Infinite thanks are due to my staff today, all of whom were sick to some extent, for gutting it out today, although we ran a bit slow because of this. Many thanks also to Meghan Torchia for running SQBS stats almost instantaneously throughout the day.

SQBS Stats: http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/52 ... all_games/

Subject area top scorers:

Fine Arts - Evan (MSU), Sky (Toronto C), Aayush (Toronto J)
Literature - Aayush (Toronto J), Evan (MSU), Raymond (Toronto C)
History - Patrick (Toronto J), Gareth (Toronto C), Erik (Open)
RMPSS - Aayush (Toronto J), Zhenglin (Toronto A), Rein (Toronto A)
Other - Aaron DR (Open), Evan (MSU) and Chris (Toronto A) tied for second
Science - Rein (Toronto A), Aayush (Toronto J), Harris (MSU)

Full fancy stats will be available in the Penn Bowl discussion forum.
