In the Northwest, we have a lot of distance between our schools, so Idaho Quiz and Academic Teams is hosting an online mirror of Delta Burke on January 18 (MLK weekend) to give newer and less experienced teams a chance to play each other without having to travel long distances. We're opening up the field to teams in other regions, with a particular interest to novice teams that are isolated and who find it hard to attend in-person tournaments to build experience.

Full Delta Burke announcement (with distribution, etc.) can be found here:

We're initially going to cap the field at 8 teams, but might expand to 10 if there is interest and available staffers. We will charge $45/team, which is enough for us to cover our costs. (I do not intend to undercut any in-person mirrors. If you're close to an in-person tournament, I will ask you to attend that, or give me a reason why that is not feasible, and may impose a surcharge to encourage teams to attend local mirrors. This is intended to help out teams that are more isolated.)

I'd like to start around 9 AM Mountain time, but we might adjust this if we have schools from other time zones.

Interested teams should sign up here:

I'm excited that the set will get to be used out west; thanks to Colin for organizing this!

I'm going to see if I can be free to moderate, though I see that there's already a good list of folks willing to do so: thanks to y'all, too!

Will this be open to high schoolers as well?

No. The intent is to give novice college players experience, especially in areas where there aren't many tournaments. For that reason, I want to restrict it to new college teams and players.

High school teams should have plenty of local tournaments to play in.

Six teams have signed up. I'll end the signup period on Friday, so if you're still interested, please go ahead and sign up by then.

UW finished 7-1 to win the tournament. BSU A was 2nd at 5-3.

Kaden from UW was top overall scorer.

Thanks to everybody who came. I think that it was a great experience for all the teams. This was Montana State's first-ever tournament, and the first tournament of the year for Florida State (Joseph, playing solo), who has been trying to get other people at FSU to form a team.
