Two Early Fall Tournaments in Norman, OK (9/30/06-10/1)

Post by DakarKra »

Greetings everyone,

The University of Oklahoma Academic Team would like to take this opportunity to make a preliminary announcement for a fun-filled weekend of quizbowl here on our picturesque campus in Norman. First, on Saturday, September 30, we will hold our annual Route 66 Classic XII, an NAQT Invitational tournament. On the following Sunday, we'll hold the Toby Keith Un-American Way Extravaganza III: A Good Old-Fashioned, Barn-Burning Shootenanny, a half-academic, half-TRASH tournament written in-house. In the hopes of maximizing attendance for both tournaments, our fee structure will run as follows:

Single Tournament
Base Fee: $75 ($65 for additional teams)
Buzzer Discount: $5 per working system
Travel Discount: $5 for the first 150 miles and an additional $5 for each 50 miles after that (all distances one-way and as determined by MapQuest).
Minimum Fee: $60 per team

Both Tournaments
Base Fee: $130 ($110 for additional teams)
Buzzer Discount: $5 per working system
Travel Discount: $5 for the first 150 miles and an additional $5 for each $50 miles after that (all distances one-way and as determined by MapQuest)
Minimum Fee: $100 per team

We will be accepting registrations through Wednesday, September 27. If you would like to register or if you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected]. We hope to see you in September/October.

Results

The results are in for both Route 66 and Toby Keith.

First, for Route 66, we had 18 teams competing in a split round robin, followed by a playoff between the top 8 teams. In the end, Harding A defeated Arkansas to claim the championship. Jason Loy was the tournament's top scorer. Complete stats can be found at http://www.ou.edu/student/okacf/r66_standings.html .

Toby Keith featured 8 teams competing first in a round robin and then in a full playoff. In the championship game, El Puplo and His X-Chicks (Tulsa A) defeated previously unbeaten Death Row Records (UTD A). Our high-scorer award went to El Puplo (Angelo) and the neg award went to Dr. Bad Ass of the Bertrand Russell All-Stars (Tulsa B). Complete stats can be found at http://www.ou.edu/student/okacf/tk3_standings.html .

I'd like to thank all of the teams for coming. We had a lot of fun hosting and we look forward to doing it again next time.
