ANNOUNCEMENT: UGA Juniorbird (9/30/06)

The University of Georgia Quizbowl Team is pleased to announce its Fall Juniorbird Tournament to be held on the campus of the University of Georgia on Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2006, most likely in the Journalism Building. This tournament will use NAQT questions (IS #60) and format but will be untimed.

Costs/Discounts

Base fee: $120

Buzzers: -$5 (up to 2)

Competent Reader: -$15 (up to 1)

*Note: Competent is defined as "understands the basic aspects of the game and can enunciate clearly".

Travel Discounts:

Campus is 100-200 miles one-way via mapquest: -$5

Campus is 200+ miles one-way via mapquest: -$15

Extra Teams: $50 (each)

Eligibility

The eligibility rules are as follows (note: as long as the player meets ANY one of these rules, he/she will be eligible to compete)

1. Enrolled at a 2 year college/university
2. A freshman or sophomore by year or standing at a 4-year college/university
3. Never competed at ACF Fall, NAQT Sectionals, or CBI Regionals before

With 3 weeks left before the tournament, we have only heard from a few interested teams. Thus we are reducing the base fee to $100 and would like all teams to e-mail us ([email protected]) ASAP if they are considering coming. Brief Results from the UGA Juniorbird that took place on the campus of the University of Georgia today:

UGA Red ran the table in the round-robin and defeated Wake Forest in an advantaged (NAQT-style) final 395-225. In the 3rd place match, UGA Silver defeated Valencia's A team 310-200. The top scorers were Sean from Valencia A, Jacob from Wake Forest, Nick from UGA Red, and Jon from UGA Red. Thanks to all the teams who came today, some from very long distances, and to all the readers and scorekeepers who helped make the tournament run so well.
