Tournament by the Sea V & 10: Woolworth the Trip (Mar 15

The Cedar Shoals HS Academic team will host Tournament by the Sea V & 10: Woolworth the Trip, on March 15, 2008, in the CSHS Fine Arts Building, in Athens, Georgia. This is a trash (popular culture) tournament open to anyone from anywhere regardless of collegiate affiliation. While there will be a few in-house packets (with special themes in a couple of them), this is still a packet submission tournament. We are offering a very enticing fee system based on when you submit your packet:

If you hand in your packet BEFORE Jan 1, your entry fee is $30

If your packet is in between Jan 1 and Jan 15, 2008: $40

If your packet is in between Jan 18 and Jan 31: $50

If your packet is in between Feb 1 and Feb 15: $60

If your packet is in between Feb 16 and Mar 1: $70

If you packet is in between Mar 2 and Mar 8: $90

If you packet is in after Mar 9: $100

We will also have Mark Franklin and his Time-Life Strife music round, as well as the usual bells and whistles seen at TBS.

These are the requirements for the packets:

21 TUs and 22 bonuses (TU 21 should be a viable TU for use in a sudden death tiebreaker- in other words- very gettable.)

In terms of categories, we’ll use the suggested format by Trashmasters:

General distribution guidelines
3 - 4 Movies
3 - 4 TV
3 - 4 Sports
3 - 4 Music
[Note: for the four categories listed above, please make sure you have at least one pre-1990 and at least one post-2000 of each.]
1-3 each:
Consumerama, including food/beverages
Trashy "literature"
0-2 each:
Videogames & computer games
Other games
Trashy current events
Other computer stuff
Comics
Gadgets
Theatre / radio / other media
Road trip effluvium
Anything else you think of is fine as long as there are no more than two questions per as-yet-unnamed category.

Sci-fi rule: As science fiction can transcend several of these categories, please limit 1 TU and 1 bonus to a science fiction related topic.

We also may be able to work out a packet swap with anyone else hosting around that time. If interested, use the email listed above.

If you're in the Athens/Atlanta area and wish to take part in The Transatlantic Quiz, it will take place in the CSHS Theatre (1300 Cedar Shoals Dr Athens GA 30605) a 6pm. Players will have up to two hours to take the quiz and they should know thier results rather quickly. We've ordered around 150 copies of the quiz, FYI.

After a late start and three tornado warnings, congrats to Kearney, et.al. (Mike Kearney, Al P. and Chris Hendry) for winning TBS V. Dont Blame us we voted for Kodos (for SEC QB Commissoner) [Mark Franklin, Mike Napier and Jeff Zahnen] came in 2nd.

EDIT: the three teams at 6-1, albeit a circle of death, were decided by PPG, seeing as we didnt have an extra packet to break the tie. Besides, after three tornado warnings, we were all worn out from the day.
