New Tournament Calendar Available on the Wiki

Post by millionwaves » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:31 pm

Andrew Hart and I have created a central calendar that is intended to be used to post collegiate/open/trash tournaments, starting with 2008. Forthcoming is one for high schools to use. It's hosted on the new quizbowl wiki, and it's really easy to put your tournament up there. Once your tournament is over, you can put a link to your stats there, and perhaps a small write-up to let everyone know how it was for posterity.

We're hoping that everyone chooses to use it. If everyone does, we'll have a useful tool that people can use to make sure they're not scheduling things on the same day as other people in the same area without having to dig through this site's announcement threads. Also, when people are planning their clubs tournaments, it'll help to have everything in one easy, convenient place. It really only can be good if the majority uses it, though, so please use it when you're running tournaments in addition to this site.

This is a link to the calendar itself.
There are instructions on that page that simply explain how to create your tournament's page for the calendar. It's really very easy to do and not very time consuming. Please use the calendar so that we can all have this useful tool.

Let me explain a little more how this works. All you have to do is create a page called "2008 your tournament" and then use the categories as laid forth on the calendar page. Each tournament should be tagged with a month and a date category, as outlined on the calendar page again.

Here's an example tournament. 2008 Illinois Novice

Notice that the date category pages aren't created yet on the calendar page, so they appear red, letting you know when a date is clear. When you create a tournament page and tag it with a date category, simply click on that category and put text like "tournaments on [date]" in the article text. That way, we'll see your tournament date as blue on the calendar!

Please use this tool, as it should be very helpful to keeping everything straight.

I've created a new template called "Upcoming," which you should use on all upcoming tournament pages to conveniently display information like date, location, editor, and packet deadline. Simply copy the code from the Cvijanovich site for your tournament page.

Thanks! Moved the link/announcement to college announcements.

Question: can this wiki be used to put up field updates as well?
