We'll be there with a few (2-3) teams for sure, though as usual we'll be a little late--the Commuter Rail doesn't get to Brandeis until 9:03.

Same situation with us. We'll definitely have enough returning players to provide you with four teams, plus probably another team of novices. Kyle may be interested in reading; I know he isn't too interested in playing.

Hopefully RPI can send a team or two, but as I mentioned earlier I'm still in the early stages of forming a team so I'll keep you updated.

When we resume practices in two weeks, we'll let you know. There will be at least one team from Brown, though.

This is exciting news. Does the NYU team plan to attend more non-trash tournaments this year? Are the World Series of Pop Culture people still on the team?RFurse wrote:Expect a team from NYU there.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: ACF Fall at Brandeis, 11/8/08
Before I forget, some notes on transportation, etc.:
Getting to Brandeis
The Fitchburg/South Acton commuter rail line has a Brandeis-Roberts stop that is adjacent to campus. The line connects to the Red Line of the T at Porter Square (If you are coming on a train or bus that comes into Boston at South Station, take the Red to Porter.) and to the Green Line and Orange Line at North Station.
In order to get to campus from the commuter rail, turn right and head down South Street. The entrance to campus will be on your left and will look something like this.
I trust that those of you who are driving can use Google Maps to find directions to Brandeis. Email me if for some reason you have questions about this.
Getting to the tournament site
After entering campus through the main entrance, continue to the right around Loop Road, passing the castle on your left. Go past the signs for North Academic Quad, and on your right, you will see the Rabb complex, most visible for its extremely large staircase. (For those of you who are driving, there is a parking lot immediately past the complex on your right.) Go up the stairs, and Olin-Sang will be the first freestanding building on the left. The auditorium where we will meet is at the end of the first-floor hallway.
Eating in Waltham
Unfortunately, there isn't much that is close by. Walking down South Street toward the commuter rail, you can find the Prime Deli and Cappy's pizza. Other than that, if you don't have a car, a main campus dining hall is right across from the tournament site, and there's an Einstein Bros. Bagels on campus that also sells sandwiches and salads and such.
That's about it. See you guys Saturday, and as always, let me know if you have questions.

Yeah, we are set on (as I emailed you) four teams. Also, Brian for staff. The first commuter rail of the day gets in at 9:03am, and the walk is usually what, not more than 15 minutes? So please to avoid starting the party before 9:20.

Yeah, it looks like we're going to have to based on the overwhelming proportion of Harvard/MIT teams in attendance.

What are we thinking of for a tournament format? And are there any modes of transportation back to Harvard besides rail at about 6:30, the shuttle at 8:00, and the rail at about 10:45?

The shuttle has another run at 9, but I also hope we won't run that long... The tournament will be the usual bracket round-robin, followed by rebrackets.

Harvard A (Dallas Simons, Andy Watkins, Dennis Sun) won the first game of an advantaged final against Brown A (Dan Klein, Eric Mukherjee, Dennis Jang, Aaron Rosenberg) to force a second game, which was won by Brown A. Top scorers included Doug Yetman, Eric Mukherjee, and sundry others.

Thanks to Hannah and Brandeis for hosting. My one quibble with the logistics was that the two rooms playing slapbowl were in the same bracket. Otherwise, things were pretty damn smooth. Yay quiz bowl.

Many thanks; the tournament was sweet; I will say things about questions later because the questions aren't clear yet. I will say things about logistics now: bravo; more bravo for changing the tournament format in the middle of the day, since that was a smart way to get us on the 8:00pm shuttle.BuzzerZen wrote:Thanks to Hannah and Brandeis for hosting. Again, thanks for coming, and I hope you enjoyed yourselves.
