TRASH Regionals (11/16/08) at the University of Maryland

Post by DumbJaques »

This is the formal announcement for TRASH Regionals Mid-Atlantic, which will be held at the University of Maryland on Sunday, November 16, 2008. The exact location of the tournament isn't set yet, but will like be either Jimenez Hall or the Armory. Once we confirm them, final logistical details will be posted in this thread. It appears that I will be serving as the tournament director for this event, so please send all registration emails to me at [email protected].

Please note that we're running this as part of an entire weekend of events, which will include a mirror of the Illinois Open on Saturday, a mirror of the Religion, Mythology, and Philosophy tournament Saturday Night, and a mirror of Andrew Hart's Impossible speedcheck Sunday night. We would certainly love to see teams attend both of these events, so there will be a discount as outlined in this post, on top of any other discounts to be applied.

Fees:
$100 Base fee per team
-$5 per buzzer system, per day (a system used both days is a $5 discount from each event)
-$10 per moderator, per day
Minimum fee: $70 playing only TRASH Regionals, $50 playing both events

I have your field update and will release it only when school programs stop sending 3 teams to every trash tournament and attending 0 academic events in the last 2 years.

EDIT: I'll post it sometime tomorrow probably.

Field Update:

Villanova x3
Udelawareish x2
Andrew Wiseman + friends
Maryland House
Pittsburgh x 2
Princeton
UMBC x 2
College Park Retirement Castle
Tricia and Dans
Deportivo Juan Valdez
SST All-Stars
Penn

We'll figure out logistics for this tournament tomorrow, but it will be in Jimenez Hall. Also, the field cap is going to be 18, which means that if anyone else wants to register, you'd better do so soon.

Um, I sent an email like an over a week ago saying that Delaware is sending 2-3 teams.

We're leaning towards 2 at the moment.

Chris-

My team (SST All-stars, Brick n frenz, whatever) should be on your list. I'm pretty sure I e-mailed you a couple of weeks ago about attending the TRASH regionals, before committing an IO team this week as well.

If it helps, I'll be there to help officiate, and administer if needed.

Is there anybody that has an open spot that wouldn't mind an extra body? If not, then I guess I'll claim the last spot, provided it is still available.

Hey, I e-mailed you about Penn bringing a team to this. I hope we made it into the elite 18. Please confirm/deny.

And where can we find parking/campus maps/etc.?

You can find a map of the campus here: http://www.parking.umd.edu/themap/

I recommend parking in lot 1 for this event. Registration will start at 8:30am with rounds to start shortly after 9:00.

I apologize for the delay in getting this information out.

Are final results going to be posted? I know that Pitt A and Deportivo Juan Valdez were going to play a 1 game playoff, but I don't know who won.

I enjoyed this set immensely - it's one of the better sets I've seen out of TRASH, and I had a great time playing on Sunday, but this wasn't one of the best-hosted events I've experienced at Maryland. Thanks to Tim Young and Andrew Lim for stepping up and attempting to keep the day running smoothly as they could.

Stats will be poster later tonight.

I apologize that this tournament didn't run as smoothly as planned but it seemed that a lack of communication ended having half of our expected staff not showing resulting in not enough mods, laptops etc. I would like to thank all those who DID show up and Tim for taking the reins and saving us from a complete disaster.

I was on Draft Day Busts, we were 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the playoff rounds.

I also had a few other comments. I like playing Trash, and had a good time with the questions, but had issues with the organization of the tournament. We didn't have moderators for two or three rounds towards the end, and there was nobody in tournament central, so I had to walk around to find the bye team to do it.

The schedule also had one team playing twice in the same round, so one team assumed they had a bye and missed part of the round, then when we figured it out on our own (we also thought we had a bye) they had already played half the round for fun.

Also, there weren't any prizes at the end. One of things I like best about Trash is the funny prizes people get.
