HI Mirror at CMU (4/11/09)

Post by Pilgrim » Wed Feb 25, 2009 1:01 am

The CMU Quizbowl Team is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a mirror of the Harvard International on Saturday, April 11 (same day as the main tournament). If you have any questions or would like to register for this tournament, please email me at TheBokonon@gmail.com

Fees:
The Base Fee will be $120 per team with the following discounts:
-$10 per 200 miles travelled
-$5 per functioning buzzer system
-$15 per moderator

Eligibility:
This tournament is open to whoever wants to play, on whatever teams they want to play on.

Logistics:
This tournament will be held in Scaife Hall. Registration will be 8:30-8:50am in Scaife 125 (AKA the Potato Chip), with rounds starting promptly at 9:00. Due to room constraints, the field will most likely be capped at 14 teams.

Side Events:
We currently don't have any plans to mirror the Fine Arts event, but I'm sure if there is interest something can be worked out, so let me know if you would like to play that.

Is there absolutely no way you can host this the weekend of the 11th? Not that I'd be passing up HI for Trashionals (ever), but we might be inclined to make the longer trip up to Harvard if we want to do both.

Yeah, it's definitely possible. I went with the 18th because I was completely unaware of when trashionals was and figured that avoiding Easter is a good idea. I'll look into changing the dates, and other teams that have a preference either way should let me know.

So, I'd like to play this, since it is literally 5 blocks from my house, but I'm surely not doing it alone, so if you have any interest in teaming up, fire me an email at la2pgh03 AT gmail.com .

Case would in all probability venture down with a team if the tournament were to be held on April 18th. Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to make it the weekend before.

Hey, Maryland will probably be sending a team to the Harvard site, but we might also send a group here - that's a maybe right now, though.

So it seems Maryland will now not be going to Harvard, but may send people to this site, if it happens.

Basically, this tournament is happening even if it means that a CMU house team sits in a room and plays 12-tuple round robin against itself.

Sort of kind of field update:

Maryland (?)
Dan Puma and Ian Eppler (?)

So, this was obviously a bit of hyperbole, and it looks like due to lack of interest this tournament is actually canceled.

I blame Pitt C.

EDIT: Maryland and friends, it's not too late to run (don't walk!) (it IS too late to walk) to Boston!

Unless you can run at 25 miles per hour for 18 hours, I'm afraid you're out of luck.
