Prelim. announcement: NAQT HS NCT Open Mirror at UTC 6/20/09

Post by Your Genial Quizmaster »

UT-Chattanooga will once again host an open delayed mirror of NAQT's HS NCT in Chattanooga on Sat., June 20, 2009. We also plan a trash tournament (Summer Camp) on June 21. Details will follow after I get back in the U.S. later this month. (It's a long story.) Thanks.

As previously announced, UTC will host a delayed open mirror of the NAQT High School Championship on Sat., June 20. Here are the promised details. Sorry to take so long – I was in another hemisphere for most of May.

Registration will begin at 9:30 AM on Sat. 6/20/09 in Holt 124 on the UTC campus, and the tournament will begin at 10 AM. The tournament is open to anyone who hasn’t already heard the questions; mixed-affiliation or no-affiliation teams are welcome. All you have to do in advance is to let us know you’re coming. The registration fee is $80 per team, with our usual discounts ($10 per moderator, $5 for a buzzer.) We will follow standard NAQT rules with 1 1/2 exceptions:
Rounds will be untimed with 20 tossups per round.
Computation questions (both tossups and bonuses) will be used, unless both teams in the match agree before the match to forgo them.

Please contact us at utcquizbowl [at] gmail [dot] com if you're bringing a team or interested in playing as a free agent.

As for Sunday 6/21… we’ll either be mirroring a pre-existing trash tournament, or barring that we may just play the remaining HS NCT rounds. Stay tuned for further bulletins.

That wouldn't be too different from a trash tournament, amirite?

No....

Charlie....some Cedar Shoals alumni might be interested. I can bring myself to read (as I did in Chicago) and bring THREE, yes, THREE buzzers- all in excellent condition. We'll know for certain in a week or so.

Hey I just saw that you are going to Boise State. Are you planning on playing on the team there at all? Colin et al would probably be happy to have you.

Yeah, except I am doing their online masters program in EDTECH, so I'm still in Cleveland. I might, however, go out there to play something at UW with them next year and visit my relatives in Seattle for a weekend or something.

I've gotten clearance to mirror Fake TRASHionals, so there will be a (somewhat shorter) Summer Camp trash tournament on Sun. 6/21 as well. Details will be posted in the Trash forum later tonight.

Charlie, can we get a field update for the NAQT mirror? I'm hoping you have more than just like 2 or 3 teams that posted in this thread to make my drive worth the while.

I suspect a couple of the listings below are duplicates, but my list shows 11 or 12 teams:

Bob Kilner et al.
Alvin Shi et al.
Cedar Shoals
Knox West & alums (1-2 teams)
Santi Likes Boys (James Johnson et al.)
Chipola
Tennessee alums
Seth Kendall
Northeast Alabama
Justin Decker et al.
David Shroeder et al.

I also have Harry Nelson, but I’m not sure if he’s bringing a team or coming as a free agent.

If anyone has additions or corrections, e-mail us at utcquizbowl [at] gmail [dot] com. Thanks.

I will be attending as well as a free agent. Does any team need an extra player? Otherwise I will team up with Harry.

Hey David John, you might not remember me from your time at ASFA, but I was one of the players on the JV team while you were a senior. I'm currently on a team with Mark Morris (alum of Brindlee Mountain) from Snead State, and Jakub Tucholski from ASFA for the HSNCT mirror. As you can see, we are missing one player from our roster, and we think it will be awesome if you joined our team. We will be splitting the entrance fee four-ways (if you come). So if you want to join a couple of people from you alma mater and have some fun, please consider our offer.

Charlie,
Unfortunately, my team will not be able to make it due to some conflicts. Good luck with the tournament.

I'll take you up on your offer and join your team. After hearing about your successes this year, I am very interested in seeing y'all in action and helping out as much as I can. I will Facebook message you about logistics.
