EFT Mirror 10/03 at UT-Austin

Post by Mr. Kwalter »

I'm pleased to announce that UT-Austin will host the Southwest mirror of the fourth annual Early Fall Tournament, which will take place on October 3, 2009.

This isn't a packet submission event; thankfully, a bunch of people from Brown are yet again doing the writing for us. EFT is a novice event and is meant to be accessible to new and novice players. Old EFT sets can be downloaded at http://collegiate.quizbowlpackets.com/.

Here's what it will cost you:

Base cost: $100.
Buzzer Discount: -$5 per buzzer used (maximum 2)
Moderator Discount: -$10 per person used
Additional teams: -$10
Travel: -$10 per 200 miles traveled (one way).

Email me at [email protected] if you'd like to bring one or more teams.

See you in a month.

After going 11-0 in the round robin Rice defeated 10-1 LASA A in the final to win UT's mirror of EFT 2009. Thanks to all the teams who came all the way to Austin and stayed the entire day for the event. Stats can be found at http://utquizbowl.tripod.com/EFT%202009 ... duals.html.

Thanks for a great tournament -- it was fun for the most part. However, my teammates and I would really appreciate it if we weren't referred to as "ULaLa" in the statistics. It's very unprofessional and outright annoying. I thank the statistician in advance for correcting this silly mishap. Grazie.

While I'm not sure if bestowing comical/stupid nicknames on teams in the stats without their consent is the most welcoming or professional thing for a TD to do, I doubt there was any actual malice or anything like that intended.

The University of Louisiana-Lafayette is somewhat commonly called ULaLa, or U La-La (or just La-La). I've seen this before on sports discussion forums (in non-mocking posts). I don't think anyone intended offense by using this abbreviation, and I hope none is found.

I, along with many other UL students, just can't stand that nickname. I've been brought up not to like it, so it's in my nature to be irritated over something like this. It's not a big deal, but to some people, things like this could be seen as being a little disrespectful. No biggie - just refer to us as Louisiana-Lafayette, ULL, Louisiana, or something more sensible unless noted otherwise.
