Are there going to be any mirrors of this tournament? My team can't be at HSNCT, but I would still like to play the set.

I, plus anywhere between 0-4 members of my team, would be interested in playing.

If Pensacola can find money to attend HSNCT, we'll probably attend this under the name of "Kitcheners' Wood."

Sure. If Jim Coury can't, since I asked him first, but if not, I'll totally play with you.

I might do this if I don't want to go with my teammates to whatever we're doing Saturday night, provided I find someone to play with on a team as I am not that great at history.

As a partial editor/writer for this tournament (and as a History teacher), while there are some questions you might get with basic history knowledge, the majority of these are really tough, and some are hard as hell.

But i will assure anyone that all the answers (that i've seen so far) are important, or at the least, really cool to be tossed up.

Well, I meant generally, as I think I have good enough knowledge in most areas, and some much better than others (like I suck on questions involving battles, but I'm pretty good on European history without the aforementioned pitfall). I probably won't be getting the "hard as hell" questions, but I'm looking at those sets, and at least half are gettable for me. I guess I also meant "not that great" as compared to other people looking to play on this, as history really isn't a strong point for me, but it's something I contribute to my team quite often.

Does anyone have any interest in mirroring this at PACE on Friday or Saturday night, barring any planned side events there?

I think anyone who plays Spring Offensive will score some points. I'm aware that many people playing this tournament will be HS students and am writing with that in mind; the fact that the questions right now lean hard merely reflects the fact that I wrote the "OMG it will be so cool to toss up [impossible thing]!" questions first.

Teams of four, correct? I was just wondering since it's not specified and the only teams that have formed seem to be teams of two, but previous iterations of this event seem to have had teams of four.

My initial idea is this:

* teams of college players are limited to two
* mixed teams of both college and high school players are limited to three
* teams made up purely of HS players, or HS players and their coach, are limited to four

I reserve the right to modify this if we need to combine teams for the sake of having enough room/buzzers, and also in case Jeff Hoppes, Charles Meigs, or somebody of that caliber becomes a HS coach between now and then

Since Auroni won't be coming to this apparently, I'm in the market for teammates. Strengths lie in American and military history; weaknesses in Asian and South American history as well as more peaceful European events. Email [cchiego at gmail] if you're interested.

Since there is a veritable bevy of interest in this tournament, I'd like to appoint a quartermaster who can ensure that we will have sufficient buzzers and staff. Your job will also include liaising with Jeff Hoppes to make sure we have enough rooms and continue to receive NAQT's toleration.

Because we have only 10 packets, we will cap the field at 20 teams. There will be two brackets, each of whom will play a single round robin. At the end, the #1 team from bracket A plays the #1 team from bracket B, the #2 team from bracket A plays the #2 team from bracket B, etc.

So all teams will play 10 games.

Capping the teams at 20 does not mean that I am capping players. We will accept as many players as we can, but after 20 teams I am going to start combining teams. Late-coming high schoolers might find themselves packed onto IHSA-style 5 person teams, and even 2-person college teams might find themselves with a surprise HS third player.

Logistics

Day 1 of HSNCT is scheduled to end at 6:00 PM.

We have 10 packets of 20/20 to run though. I will make sure that the questions are fairly short (5-7 lines) and that moderators are trained to go through the packets as quickly as possible. Still, we are looking at a 5 hour tournament here.

I figure that running the tournament from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM is the best bet; Gaddis routinely ran into the wee hours of the morning so this would not be cruel and unusual for an HSNCT side event. Perhaps I will also employ principles of scientific management, time moderators, and replace ones who are causing delays.

In order to start at 7:00 PM, I am going to ask teams to have very short dinner breaks. I would like to order a diverse amount of food (Pizzas, burritos, Chinese food) for teams to eat during registration, which will start at the end of the last HSNCT round. Ideally, the food will encourage teams to take no dinner break at all, but instead to eat between 6-7 PM during registration.

There is a promotion to Intelligence Officer available to anybody who sends me a good list of restaurants that have been PROVEN to deliver food to the Hyatt Regency O'Hare.

I will ask Evan or George if they still have that Chinese place's menu, that place was the best hands down.

Basically, we are going to ask Spring Offensive teams to do one of two things:

(1) Eat the rations we provide at registration;
(2) Order food on their own during the last two rounds of HSNCT, that they will eat in the Hyatt during registration

If you want to go out and have a quick dinner break (NOT RECOMMENDED), you will risk forfeiting your first round game if you are not back by 7:00 PM.

Whether or not moderators will enforce this with sidearms depends on whether or not the Supreme Court decides MacDonald v. Chicago by May 29.

The Charter roster is myself, Alex Gross, John Stacy, and Josip Broz Tito, er, I mean Joe Brosch.

We'll probably order food in.

Looking forward to this.
