I will most likely be playing with Matt Greenbacker, although I should probably ask him first.

I'm going to interrupt the reguarly scheduled team-forming discussion to state that if anyone who is planning to play this tournament is looking to staff the HSNCT and has not heard from me already to please send me an email at [email protected] .

Also...Bruce, I saw your post upthread about NAQT buzzers/rooms. To be honest, I actually don't know what rooms we have for the HSNCT yet (I need to get that list still), but I'm happy to work with you (or someone else you choose) to allow for you to either use the suites we have or the meeting rooms. Feel free to contact me offline about this as well.

I'm interested in playing this. I suck at military history, but I have some knowledge of 20th century social stuff and I can pick up giveaways. If this description is what you're looking for, get in touch with me. Note: NAQT hasn't yet confirmed that they need me to staff the HSNCT, so I'll have to bail out if that doesn't come through.

While I will not be able to staff HSNCT, I am looking for a teammate for what might end up being my only history doubles in 2010. My best areas would be American and British history.

I haven't bothered to look at this thread for a while, I noticed my name was on the field update with a question mark. I won't be able to make it because I have to work over the summer.

Eden Prairie also seems to have a question mark. We will certainly be attending, although I don't have a final roster yet. Do you need a roster before the tournament? If so, by what date?

At this point, I just need to know if you will be sending a team.

If you come with less than 4 players, expect to have a random HS player assigned to be the 4th person on your team. I will be forced to combine teams because we have only 20 team spots available.

We have 20 teams. To ensure that everybody can play, I will now begin assigning free agents to existing teams and combining teams.

Some questions:
(1) Villa Duchesne: are you guys still playing this? If so, how many members will your team have?
(2) Alex Gerton: how many teammates do you plan on having?
(3) Ben Carbery/Ben Chametzsky and Ben Cole/Ming Ling: do you guys mind being combined into a single 4-person team?
(4) Sorice and Westbrook: will you consent to playing with each other?

Somebody named "Trey Taraila" told me they might be playing. Is this the same guy? If so he does not have a team yet and I will assign him to an existing team.

Ben Cole said that Ming Lin is definitely not playing this and that he himself might not even go to HSNCT. We are adding Kevin Malis to our team. Our team right now is me, Chametzky, Malis, and Cole (maybe). If Cole doesn't come we can take a free agent. Sound good?

I will probably not let you play as a 2 or 3 person team; you would be gently forced into taking free agents until you hit 4.

Sorry, that's just the way it is. My alternative is to turn people away from the tournament and I don't want to do that.

I, in the last few days, emailed my team about playing this. I have not received a response back yet from any of my teammates. Even if my team decides not to participate (I'll ask them all again in the near future), I'd still like to play this event with anyone who's willing to team up with me. WARNING: I don't expect to win. XD

OK, so at this point, it looks like we have the following situation:

* 20 registered teams
* a 4-person team (Bellarmine) looking to get in
* 4 free agents who will be there for certain (Rom, JT, Greg, Dan-Don)
* 1 free agent who might be there (Ryan Dillon)

My inclination now is to do the followin:

(1) Combine 4 of the existing teams into 2 teams. Prime Targets for consolidation include:
* Thomas Littrell/Daniel Chupin (still a 2-person team?)
* Villa Duchesne (possibly a 1 person team at this point?)
* Alex Gerten (still a 1 person team?)
* Charlie Dees/Nick Rupel (a 2-person team)

(2) With the 2 open slots, let Bellarmine play together, and create a free agent team consisting of Rom, Jonathan Thompson, Greg Peterson, and Dan-Don.

(3) Ryan Dillon, if he shows up, will be placed on some team.

What I'd like now is contact information for the people listed as consolidation candidates. You guys can email me, or, after May 5, I will begin seeking you out using my channels and sources.

Villa Duchesne is at least a 2 person team for sure at this point, and I am 99.9% sure it'll be a full team of 4.

OK, so we are looking at the remaining 2-person teams:

(1) Alex Gerten & Co. (2 people)
(2) Aaron Cohen/Matt Greenbacker
(3) Charlie Dees/Nick Rupel
(4) Thomas Littrell/Daniel Chupin

If I do not hear from these people, I will combine the teams as follows:

(1) Charlie Dees, Nick Rupel, Alex Gerten, Alex Gerten teammate
(2) Aaron Cohen, Matt Greenbacker, Thomas Littrel, Daniel Chupin

This will let us fit every person currently registered without having any 5-person teams.

Trey Taraila has told me that he no longer wishes to play in this tournament. In fact, he would like to write a handful of tossups for it (he said "no more than 6" likely).

E-mail him at rstaraila AT gmail DOT com if you don't hear from him soon. He probably just forgot to say anything since AP exams are going on right now.

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: Spring Offensive at HSNCT (5/29/2010)

Post by EncyclopediaCDRom »

As I will be finally attending the Indianapolis 500 on Memorial Day weekend, I regret having to withdraw from these great history quadruples. I have already told Bruce in person, but I want to give another player as much notice as possible to join the free agent team.

Cape Central High School will bring two people for sure:

Joshua Wen (me)
Prithvi Rudrappa

We might have others interested, but that depends on whether or not they can go to Geographic Monstrosity.

There is a chance that we might have more than the previously indicated 4 people wishing to participate in this. Is there still room for some free agents?

Nobody will be turned away as long as they pay the entry fee. But they might (probably will) be placed on some team without much choice on their part.

If it's not too late, I'd like to participate (I'll be there for sure). Don't have a team, so I can be assigned to anything.

At this rate, I will most likely be there for the event, however, I was wondering how much of a discount, if there will be one, would there be for coming in historical costume? Just wondering because I will not have much money for spending.

Would it be possible for you to add Charlie Beard to our team? He's a high schooler from the same team as my two existing teammates, and in no way will his presence unbalance the field.
