[FIELD WILL BE PERIODICALLY UPDATED IN MESSAGE DOWNTHREAD]

I know it's absurdly early, but I wanted to lock into this weekend in November now. Once again, this set will be available for mirroring at the university level in exchange for writing a packet or two (or maybe just a pile of science). Like last year, it will be free for mirroring for CCs outside of Florida (and, one hopes, Georgia!). And once again it will aspire to be the paragon of truly novice-level college quiz bowl, perfect for those playing in their first or second tournament ever. If you're interested in mirroring, drop me a line at cborglum at valenciacc dot edu or reply here.

Just wondering if there is a possible field update for this?

Field Update (later on 10/19):

Valencia (4)
Seminole
Central Florida (3)
Mercer (1-2)
NW Fl State (aka OWCC) (2)
SCoFL (aka Manatee CC)
Gulf Coast (2)
Pasco-Hernando (3)
Brevard
Fl College Jax
New College (1-2)
South Florida CC (2)
Broward (3)
Chipola (3)
Indian River

Do I get like a penny each time the "beardo" line is used memetically?

Odds of someone ever using this on Jerry are currently set at 300:1.

Congratulations to Dallin Kelson, who, playing as Chipola Blue, beat Valencia Red 455-125 in the finals of Delta Burke yesterday. It's the third year in a row that a Chipola team has beaten Valencia in the finals. Crud!

I'm unhappy with myself for allowing the packets to feature so many literal repeats (as in the exact same question appearing twice, mostly with science bonuses), less unhappy that there are some minor content repeats. There were a number of complicating factors that were beyond my control, though I should've been more prepared for those problems. The good news is that I think we were able to fix all of those problems for Harvard's mirror today, though I'm sorry that many of them likely still plagued those playing at WUSTL.

I'll get someone who knows what they're doing to post stats soon. There is a mirror next weekend at Penn, and after that I'll look forward to hearing discussion of the questions. Thanks to Billy Beyer, who wrote a ton and came through with short-notice, Friday-night replacements when needed, and to Ahmad Ragab for lots of last-second help. And thanks also to those who wrote packets, or tried to, in exchange for mirrors: Andy Watkins, Mehdi Razvi, and Charles Hang.

We're really looking forward to hearing these questions at Penn next Saturday. I'm glad that any set issues seem to already have been taken care of.

Any remaining problems will rear their ugly heads at Harvard today, so we should be able to have a really clean set for y'all next week. I hope your players will like it!

Thanks, Stan!

Upon looking at these, it appears that the Verdandi bracket was tougher than the other two. At least now we know more about the teams for future bracketing this year.

PS--Dallin finally got a grail, getting all 20 against Mercer B in the first playoff round.

Thanks for posting the results. I'll share them with my team.

I'm Marc from Broward; just found this forum. Our teams had a lot of fun at the tournament-- we even got a kick out of getting curb-stomped by Dallin-- so thanks for hosting it.

Any idea who's responsible for putting the extra n in my last name?

I don't know who did that, Marc, but I can assure you I'll spare no expense in time or effort to track him/her down and savagely berate them for this insult!

But I'm glad y'all enjoyed it. And now welcome to these fora, where your innate joy in the game will eventually be worn to a grimly cynical obsession with it. But in a good way!
