Hosts in areas with numerous quizbowl-less community colleges should read this thread and reach out to those schools - you might be surprised at what you find.

Is this optimal? We're expecting a field of 6 teams at the Ottawa site tomorrow, and after the round-robin, I might rather just do two brackets of 3 each with byes. What's the best way to do this, HSQB?:
- having two byes per playoff round
- having "exhibition games" between teams on bye in two different brackets
- having the same two teams play each other three times in a row

If you can be very sure that no one will screw up and read the wrong packet and if you're willing to let ties stand, you could always just do a double round robin. Actually, rereading the thread, it looks like Andrew would prefer teams to run a format that includes a final; if that remains an absolute requirement I think I'd go for the option with exhibition games since no one likes a 4:1 game:bye ratio or playing the same opponent three times in a row.

At the Duke site they basically let ties stand so there could be more rounds. After all this is a novice tournament geared towards getting young players game time experience more than anything, so I'd say letting everyone have 10 games is optimal.

Is this set going to be posted? (Or is it already up somewhere that I don't know about?)

Discussion will be made public sometime this weekend when I have a chance to get everything sorted out and can take the time to appropriately thank everyone who made the tournament possible. Until then, comment away in the private forum.
