A place to discuss topics affecting quizbowlers as a community rather than quizbowl as a game.

Statement from PACE on racism and police brutality

Post by Thaumatibis gigantea »

The Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence condemns racism and police brutality. We grieve the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, and the countless others who have suffered at the hands of an unjust system. We also denounce the violent response to the recent nationwide protests for racial justice.

It has always been our mission to bring high school quizbowl to all, and we wish to reaffirm that dedication. We acknowledge that we have made minimal efforts in serving Black and other marginalized students.

We pledge and recommit ourselves to address systemic bias and lack of representation within the quizbowl community, and to make the community an affirming and inclusive place for all. We have already started developing initiatives that we believe begin to address the gap that currently exists, including our mentorship programs, contact directories, and outreach grants.

Additionally, we are in active discussion as an organization on how we can further our efforts, both through expanding the reach of existing initiatives and through developing new programs. We welcome input and ideas from the community. Please join us in discussion here, or email [email protected] with any comments.

If you have experienced a bias-related incident at a quizbowl tournament, you also may file an anonymous report to the joint Misconduct Reporting Form.
