Detroit Country Day MS Invitational (MS-32), 1/25/2020

Post by bmcnellen »

It is my pleasure to announce formally the eighth annual Detroit Country Day School Middle School Quiz Bowl Tournament, to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020. This will be a NAQT untimed event, with 20 tossup/bonus sets per game, using packet MS-32; the top 15% of teams in attendance will qualify for NAQT middle school nationals in Chicago on May 9-10, 2020.

The tournament will be held at the Detroit Country Day School Upper School campus in Beverly Hills, MI. We will have a field cap of 32 teams. If a school wishes to register more than four teams, any excess teams will be wait-listed until the close of registration on January 18, 2020.

The fee schedule will be as follows :

$50 for the first team from a school
$40 for the second team from a school
NO CHARGE for each team beyond the second from a school
-$5 per fully functional buzzer system that a school brings
-$10/school distance discount for travelling over 100 miles one way as per Google Maps

To register, please email me ([email protected]) with the amount of teams/buzzers that you will be bringing.

It is preferable that you pay by cash or check on your arrival at the tournament, but you may also mail payment to me at the school address beforehand. Please make checks payable to:

Detroit Country Day School Quiz Bowl
22305 West 13 Mile Road
Beverly Hills, MI 48025

Hope to see you on January 25th!

Dr. McNellen,
You should probably edit your subject to say (MS-32) or you may have teams attending the DCC tournament think they can't come.

Thanks to all the teams that came out on this conflict-laden Saturday! It proved to be an extremely competitive day, featuring an unusually high amount of close matches. In the end, Gagie A (10-0) pulled out a thrilling come-from-behind victory over St. Michael's A (9-1) to earn the tournament title. St. Michael's B earned the third and final qualifying spot by edging out Gagie B with a fifteen point victory margin.

Hope to see everyone again next year!
