High School Quiz Show has announced that October 20, 2019 will be Super Sunday this year. This will undoubtedly affect the participation of Massachusetts teams even if it's tangentially related to quiz bowl.

The Long Island Quiz Bowl Alliance, in affiliation with the Greater New York Quiz Bowl Alliance, is claiming October 19, February 1, and May 9, subject to change, for a series of tournaments to be announced in early July. All three will take place in Suffolk County, NY.

Joe,
I will list these here until NY/NJ/PA/DEL gets a 19-20 date page up and running. At that point, can you submit it to them to keep it consistent with the other regional spots? I don't mind putting it up in the NE forum right now, but it gets a bit cluttered if we don't stick to NE events.

CMFT will take place on November 23, NAQT set 189A.

Thanks for setting this up Troy.

We'd also like to tentatively claim Feb 29 for a middle school tournament. I'd really like to continue to work to grow the middle school circuit in New England and encourage high school programs to reach out to their feeder school and start something - even if it's just a small week long program during the Feb break culminating in the Feb 29th tournament.

Looking forward to 2019-2020 Quiz Bowl!

Jess Bowen

Sorry for the late response guys.

We talked about taking the same date as last year for ABWIT, so I'm gonna throw up a (tentative!) claim for January 4, 2020. We'll probably run it on an IS set.

Sorry! Have been quite busy with senior year things recently. The request is tentative in that my tournament request has not yet been approved by NAQT (i.e. it is in the "review process"), but we still very much intend to host a tournament on this date.

Hey Vincent,
I am assuming that you are still planning to use IS188? The last time I checked with NAQT they said that would likely be the set.

IAC is happy to announce it is holding the following tournaments in the region:

Varsity / JV
  • Connecticut - Newton High School - Saturday, March 7th - on our B Set.
  • Upper Hudson- Bethlehem Central High School- February 1st - on our B set.
  • New Hampshire - Hanover High School - Saturday, February 29th - on our C Set.
  • Vermont - Burlington High School - Saturday, February 15th - on our B Set.
Teams may register at this link and find more information about a tournament on the tournament page here. The registration deadline is 7 pm Eastern time on 8 days before the tournament or 7pm Eastern time 5 days before the tournament for an additional $10 late fee per team. There are no registration deadlines for individual events (i.e. walk ins are welcome; please arrive 15 minutes before the beginning of the Bee / Exams as per the schedule on the tournament page).

We will be holding the Varsity / JV National Qualifying Exams for the US Geography Championships / International Geography Bee, US History Bee, (new!) National Science Bee and (new!) National Political Science Bee during the first part of the lunch break. Those who take exam(s) should do the exam(s) first, and then eat afterwards - there will be time to do so. These are 50-question, 20-minute time limit multiple-choice tests - it's $10 per student per Exam. Important Note! - You CAN do 3 or 4 exams, but you still only have a maximum of 40 minutes to take these. You can also do other exams at our upcoming B and A Set tournaments or with a proctor at your school / homeschool association.

Varsity / JV / Middle School
  • Our A Set tournament will not have a Middle School History Bee, but during the History Bee portion of the day, students in grades 8 and younger are welcome to compete in the International Geography Bee Regional Quiz Tournament. Any student in grade 8 and younger is also welcome to play in the JV History Bee as well. Note that the questions used in the middle school division of the History Bowl will be significantly easier than the A Set questions used by the Varsity and JV players.
If you have further questions about any of the above tournaments, email Michael Borecki at michael@historybowl DOT com

Yale would like to tentatively claim Saturday, February 29 for the main site of BHSAT. We understand that there is a slight conflict with AMSA's middle school tournament but believe the fields are effectively distinct. Furthermore, the collegiate quiz bowl calendar necessitates this date from our point of view.

The BHSAT mirrors thread said that the main site is on 2/15; is this the final date?

Belmont would like to move BAIT III to March 21. Due to troubles with the administration, there is a very small, but real, chance that the date is subject to change. It is highly likely that this will be the final date though.

Hi,

I greatly apologize for the confusion, but it looks like BAIT III will actually be on March 28th. Essentailly. we were lied to by the administration at our school twice, but it looks like now things have been cleared up. I am confident in saying that this will be the date for BAIT III.
