Ready to power more tossups? Tired of thinking “How did they get that?” after your opponent buzzes?

Qwiz is ready to help! Today we are launching our Qwiz5 Quizbowl Essentials, a free resource to help you boost your game! In each Qwiz5 installment, we’ll explore an answer line and its five most frequent clues. This is no mere list of facts to memorize - Qwiz5 is about providing context to clues you’ve probably heard before, because understanding what’s being asked is crucial to answering faster and more accurately!

The first four installments are live now:

The Magic Flute
Tay-Sachs Disease
The Battle of Hastings
Blanche DuBois

You can check them out at http://qwizbowl.com/qwiz5! We’ll be posting new installments twice a week to the website, so keep checking back for updates--and if there's a topic you'd like to see a Qwiz5 on, drop us a note at [email protected] and let us know!

Thanks, and happy Qwizzing!

I'm glad that these guides exist, but make sure that whoever is producing these guides fact-checks themselves and understands the distinction between terms with distinct meanings. Antietam did not kill 23,000 soldiers! It produced 23,000 casualties. Casualties include killed, wounded, and missing, the vast majority of which in the context of a Civil War battle would be composed of the wounded. The actual number of killed in action is closer to 3,650 according to the Antietam NPS website (https://www.nps.gov/anti/learn/historyc ... alties.htm). Similarly, 13,000 casualties at Miller's Cornfield does not translate to 13,000 deaths.

Thank you for this feedback, Ankit. We will make the necessary edits, and will try to be more precise in the future.

If you notice an error in a Qwiz5, please let us know at [email protected] or by messaging me here; we try to proof our work carefully, but we occasionally miss things that the collective knowledge of the quizbowl community won't!

Just an update:

The Qwiz5 library is now nearing 50 entries! These are all free study guides intended to make your life a little easier and to give you an edge as you go into the heart of competition season. Our latest entries cover Brancusi, Jainism, and Handel, and we have our first Qwiz5 by request--a topic one of our readers asked for--coming very soon. You can check these out at www.qwizbowl.com/qwiz5, and while you're there, you can subscribe if you'd like to get these automatically delivered when they come out. Subscribers also get some special bonus materials we don't make available on the site, and are entered into our monthly free camp giveaway drawing!

If there's something you'd like to see us cover in the Qwiz5, feel free to email us your suggestion at [email protected]. We'll do our best to help you out. In the meantime, good luck this semester from all of us at Qwiz!
