I've long used Google Books when writing quizbowl questions.
In March, I remember reading some headlines about the Internet Archive offering books from its virtual library for free during the Covid-19 pandemic. It didn't really dawn on me until now that this would be extremely useful alternative to Google books for quizbowl purposes.
Basically, you can get full text access to a book for either 1 hour (if there's only one copy) or 14 days by going here: https://archive.org/details/inlibrary. After borrowing a book, you're free from Google's annoying restrictions about the number of pages you can view or limiting search terms.
You can borrow even relatively new books like this Andrew Jackson book I picked at random from 2009: https://archive.org/details/birthofmodernpol00lynn
There's an ongoing lawsuit about this so it may not last forever.
